The previous chapter returns to the moment after Kindaka's death. Uzuki was fleeing the scene, but Akao managed to apprehend him, pinning him to the ground and aiming her gun at him. She was furious, blaming Uzuki for Kindaka's death because he had let the antidote go to waste. She questioned if it was done on purpose.

Uzuki confessed that it was indeed intentional, leading Akao to question his motives. In response, he lashed out saying he had no other option. Akao, instead of killing him, was more intrigued to learn the whole story.

Uzuki revealed that those he considered family were being held hostage. If he had not killed Kindaka, they would have murdered Gaku, a thirteen-year-old boy who was like a younger brother to him.

He elaborated that he was raised in an institution that trained orphans to be assassins for the JAA. They were denied the freedom to live their own lives and were forced to carry out impossible missions and kill people against their will. The orphanage was run by Asaki.

At this point, they were ambushed by assassins who wanted to arrest them on suspicion of murdering Kindaka. Akao shot down each one of them. She empathized with Uzuki as she also had loved ones to protect, and decided to help him.

The duo then hit the road in a car. They make a stop for smokes, breakfast, and fuel and seem to be enjoying their time together, discussing the poor quality of food at the JAA-run cafeteria and contemplating stealing their pursuers' car to sell it for cash. They had no specific destination in mind and just kept moving. However, the chapter ended with a foreboding note that this would not last for long.
