Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin episode 1 will be released on July 6, 2024, and will premiere the anime adaptation of the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin ARPG game. The title was released in 2020 and is the second game from a two-man development team called Edelweiss.

Episode 1 will mainly focus on introducing Sakuna and the circumstances that lead to her banishment. Although many fans are expecting the first episode to be rather lighthearted, some are also anticipating brief but good action sequences given that the game originally focuses on both farming and side-scroller action.

Where to watch Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin episode 1?

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin episode 1 will be broadcast on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other networks in Japan. The anime will be available for streaming on both Crunchyroll and Ani-One Asia's Youtube channel. Its availability will be subject to regionlocks in Crunchyroll, so Ani-One Asia will be a more convenient choice for viewers.

The first promotional video for the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime showcases the extreme challenges that await the banished Goddess, Sakuna, and her companions. The anime will feature the original voice actors from the game: Naomi Ozora as Sakuna, Takashi Narumi as Tama-Jii, Ryota Yano as Tauemon, and Soma Maeda as Kinta.

The series will be animated by Studio P.A. Works, who have previously worked on numerous anime like Angel Beats!, Charlotte, Another, Maquia, with their most recent one being Buddy Daddies.

Masayuki Yoshihara will direct the anime at P.A. Works studios, with Jukki Hanada supervising the series' scripts. Yoshihara is known for his work on Another, A Lull in the Sea, and Ghost in the Shell (1995).

Although Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin and its anime adaptation have not been widely recognized by many overseas anime fans, Yoshihara's involvement has attracted considerable attention, with many eager to see his direction in this new venture.


Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin episode 1: What to expect

Episode 1 will be a rather relaxing episode that mainly explores Sakuna's character before her banishment from the realm of the gods. While this series has been categorized as an action anime, the first episode will probably only focus on character introduction.
