Sarada Uchiha is one of the main characters in the Boruto franchise and the daughter of Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. Being the daughter of some of the strongest shinobi from the Hidden Leaf Village, Sarada inherited her parents' courage and her father's doujutsu, the Sharingan. However, her blood type remains a mystery for various reasons.

According to the author, her blood type is O. Surprisingly, having this blood type is genetically impossible due to her parents' blood type. This could only mean that her blood type is based on the 'Blood Group Personality Theory,' a superstitious concept in Japan where people believe a person's blood type is decided through their personality traits instead of genetics.

Boruto: Why does Sarada have a genetically different blood type?

Sarada Uchiha is the last known descendant of the Uchiha clan in Boruto and a part of the current era's Team 7 alongside Boruto Uzumaki and Mitsuki. Throughout the series, she has shown interest in becoming the village leader (Hokage). So, she could be considered a role model for the upcoming generation and the shinobi of her age.

Among the few mysteries related to her, one of the biggest ones might be her blood type. According to the series, Sarada has the blood type O (not specifying whether it's the '+' or '-'). Genetically, she can't have this blood type because of her parents' blood type.

Sasuke has the blood type AB, while Sakura has blood type O. This means their children could only have blood type A or B. So, does this mean that Sarada isn't the biological daughter of her parents? This could be where fiction differentiates from reality, as the concept of 'Blood Group Personality Theory' might be at play here.

Blood Group Personality Theory is a superstitious belief in which people believe that a person's personality is a much better prediction of their blood type rather than genetics. According to this theory, people with blood type O are more confident and aggressive than others.

Surprisingly, this description defines the character of Sarada Uchiha, who inherited her mother's anger and developed leadership abilities, which is why she aims to become the Hokage. So, her blood type might not follow real-life medical knowledge.

Why is it impossible for Sarada to have blood type O?

As already stated, Sasuke's AB blood type AB contains two components: A (allele) and B (allele), both of which are dominant. Sakura's O blood type contains a single component, oo (allele), which is recessive.

When cross-linked, their offspring would either have an A or B blood type because the alleles from Sasuke are dominant, and each of them would combine with Sakura's recessive 'oo' to give rise to children with A or B.

Final thoughts

Unlike One Piece, in which the author uses a self-made blood type system, Masashi Kishimoto might have used a system already present but not accepted worldwide. The reason behind choosing it could be due to the author's convenience, as he could tie personality traits with a character's blood type instead of following real-life medical knowledge.
