Heading into One Piece chapter 1125’s release week, fans were expecting the issue to deal with the final fallout from the Egghead arc surrounding Imu and the Gorosei. More specifically, fans expected to see the ultimate fate of the Gorosei’s Warrior God of Science and Defense Saint Jaygarcia Saturn since the Egghead Incident occurred under his watch.
Fans were seemingly accurate in this prediction, with the latest spoilers for One Piece chapter 1125 claiming that Imu kills Saturn for his mistakes on Egghead Island. This death is also done in an extremely horrifying way, seemingly confirming that the Gorosei are immortal along the way by nature of how Saturn’s appearance changes throughout this process.
This confirmation is also supported by a flashback Saturn has to 200 years prior just before his death, focused on the Ancient Robot Emeth, also called the Iron Giant. However, the flashback revealed that Saturn wasn’t just present for Emeth’s attack on Mariejois, but made a choice in its aftermath which directly led to his own demise.
One Piece chapter 1125 confirms that Saint Jaygarcia Saturn set himself up for death 200 years prior via Emeth
At the start of the Egghead arc, Dr. Vegapunk is first introduced as he’s working on Emeth, the aforementioned Ancient Robot/Iron Giant. Dr. Vegapunk explains to Luffy that Emeth attacked Mariejois 200 years prior before suddenly running out of energy. He adds that while it was ordered to be destroyed afterwards, a group of scientists disobeyed the order and have passed it down from generation to generation since in order to be studied.
Flash forward to One Piece chapter 1125, and Saint Saturn’s pre-death flashback shows that he was the one who gave the order to that group of scientists. More specifically, he orders them to go against the actual orders they received to scrap the robot, saying he’ll take responsibility if anything happens. He implores them to study it, saying that it is the future and will ultimately prove to be a great asset to the World Government’s military might.
While this flashback does further suggest that the Gorosei are immortal as mentioned above, it also confirms that Saturn is the one responsible for Emeth’s salvation. In turn, this is what directly led to Saturn’s death in One Piece chapter 1125, as Imu cites his failure in allowing the Straw Hats to escape thanks to Emeth’s help as to why he’s being killed. In this way, Saturn’s decision from 200 years prior is what ultimately led to his death in the present.
This is also not the first time Saint Saturn’s actions have come back to haunt him, with Jewelry Bonney’s abilities also doing so. Chapter 1103 revealed that Saturn was the one who gave her the Devil Fruit powers she possesses via an experiment to see if powers could be granted without eating the Fruit directly. By successfully doing so in this experiment, he created yet another significant variable in the Egghead Incident which led to his ultimate demise.
Fortunately, these mistakes will be the last Saturn ever makes, as the antagonist has been reduced to nothing but a skeleton as of chapter 1125’s end. Replacing him in the Gorosei is Saint Garling Figarland, which could be a much more significant development than fans currently think it to be.
