Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 1 will air on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 5:00 pm JST. This series was one of the biggest surprises in the anime market back in 2023 when the first season came out. Thanks to its success, the second installment was greenlit, with the same studio that put this project on the map, C2C.

At the end of the previous season, Sunraku managed to gain a lot of notoriety by defeating Wezaemon. His encounter with the Professor and the latter's proposal of helping him discover the history of the game could be setting up the main storyline of this new installment.

Recap of the previous season

Rakuro Hizutome is a "trash game hunter", which means that he likes to play video games that have all kinds of bugs and glitches. He usually picks up the username Sunraku and has built a reputation for being someone who can use his gamer abilities to cope with the different problems that these trash games present.

One day, he is offered the chance to play Shangri-La Frontier, an online video game that is widely regarded as the ultimate masterpiece of gaming. He picks up his classic username of Sunraku and decides to embark on this adventure while also meeting a couple of friends he made in other games, such as Arthur Pencilgon and Oikatzo, who end up joining him.

The peak of the first season is Arthur Pencilgon's proposal that they should defeat Wezaemon, one of the biggest bosses of the game. This leads to the main focus of the debut season and proves to be a major milestone for the cast. They defeat Wezaemon and gain a lot of notoriety across the game to the point that the Professor approaches Sunraku with the proposal of discovering the true history of Shangri-La Frontier.
