Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12: Sunraku and Rei come up with a plan to defeat Lycagon

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12, released on December 29, 2024, focused on Sunraku and Rei Saiga as they fought with one of the Seven Colossi, Lycagon. The bulk of the episode was focused on the fact that both characters tried to come up with a strategy to fight this beast and massively struggled in the process, to the point that Rei came up with a strategy.

Another important element in Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12 was how Sunraku managed to use some items from Inventoria for the first time since his victory over Wezaemon as Rei Saiga was preparing a special attack. Moreover, it was revealed in this episode that Lycagon has a very peculiar fighting style, highlighting his complex programming in the game.

In Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12, where the previous one is left off, Sunraku begins to assault Lycagon, one of the Seven Colossi, and he tries to come up with a strategy to hurt this creature. Moreover, Rei Saiga, also known as Psyger-0, attacked from her own end to cause some damage, but they struggled to make an impact.

As the two protagonists are fighting, Sunraku mentions that he already knows a degree of Lycagon's attacking patterns because of what he witnessed when the creature fought SF-Zoo. However, it was revealed in this episode that this Unique Monster can switch places with his shadow clone, thus surprising the protagonist in the process.

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12 has a particular moment when Sunraku realizes that Lycagon didn't switch places with his clone in the previous battles because he can understand human speech. Much to the protagonist's surprise, he tells Rei that the beast can understand what they are saying and is smart enough to strategize to keep a degree of surprise factor, with Sunraku praising the game's AI behavior.

At this moment, Rei Saiga mentions that she has a special move that gave her the title of Attack Master, but she has to execute her Apocalypse and Catastrophe attacks five times each, meaning she needs to buy time. This is something that Sunraku buys into and decides to use his weapons to hold the monster off as Rei attacks with her moves.

During the last part of Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12, Sunraku has to teleport to Inventoria because he is about to get killed and decides to use the Ether Reactor and some new tools since he now has the experience and information that is necessary. Sunraku uses a special helmet and an Inventory robot, Suzaku, to destroy the clouds, and the episode ends with the arrival of Akane Akitsu.

Final thoughts

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 12 had Sunraku fighting one of his biggest challenges in the series thus far and working with Rei Saiga for the first time in the story. Moreover, the next episode promises a very interesting confrontation now that Akane Akitsu can get involved in the battle against Lycagon.
