Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 5 is out, and the main focus of the episode was how Sunraku had to deal with the threat of the Crystal Scorpions and a new surprise monster, the Golden Crystal Scorpion. While he had no way to prepare for this situation, Sunraku had to adapt and come up with a situation to deal with this extraordinary creature.

It is also worth pointing out that Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 5 could be considered a very fitting representation of what the series is all about. Sunraku's strategies and sheer excitement for a challenge are the core themes of the story and show how a gamer lives to push his limits.

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 5: A new enemy steps in to fight Sunraku

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 5 starts where the previous one left off as Sunraku comes up with a tactic where he uses the physics of his enemies, the Crystal Scorpions, so they can fall off a cliff. While it seemed that he had the last laugh and gained a lot of experience points from this event, he realizes that didn't happen.

It turns out that there was a creature beneath the cliff who was a Golden Crystal Scorpion, whom Sunraku realizes is a very special boss. As he engages in battle with this creature and realizes that it is a lot stronger than the average Crystal Scorpion, he comes to the conclusion that this creature could compare to Unique Monsters such as Lycaon and Wezaemon.

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 5 then moves to Sunraku, engaging in combat with this creature and realizing that perhaps it is not as physically resistant as the Crystal Scorpions but also a lot more powerful. There was even a moment when he came up with the idea of dodging its venom attack, and then the Golden Crystal Scorpion almost defeated Sunraku, but the latter escaped to Inventoria.

Sunraku decides that the Golden Crystal Scorpion is a major threat, so he decides to come up with a series of plans to hurt this creature. Some of them include using the techniques he used to defeat Wezaemon, to the point that he managed to cut the monster's tail, which he kept as a special treasure he could use later on in the series.

Despite the fact that he no longer has the help of the Wolfgang clan for this battle, Sunraku manages to adapt to this situation. A good example of that is how he lured the Crystal Scorpions to attack the gold one since he realized that they were not working together as a team, which only further emphasized the creature's berserker mode.

The key moment of the battle was when he jumped to give it the finishing blow, but the Golden Crystal Scorpion removed his weapons, and Sunraku had to rely on the weapons that were still stabbing it. It was a great move, and Sunraku smiles with pride as the creature is defeated.

Final thoughts

Shangri-La Frontier season 2 episode 5 didn't move the plot forward but provided audiences with a great fight. Sunraku's determination and ambition regarding the challenges of this game shone through and is perhaps the greatest contribution of this episode.
