Blue Lock episode 11 of its second season continued with the main cast's match against Japan's Under-20s, with Shidou Ryusei scoring a phenomenal bicycle goal outside the box. While it was a very good moment and one that highlighted Shidou's sheer talent as a footballer, it also made people wonder what the series is all about.

This is because Shidou started to talk about fertilization, having kids, and the process of reproducing when discussing his partnership with midfielder Sae Itoshi, to the point that the Blue Lock anime even depicted the actual process of how sperms lead to pregnancy in the animation. It was a shocking moment for many people, which led to some genuine questions about how this is related to football.

Blue Lock has fans wondering what the series is about after Shidou's fertilization comments

The most recent episode of the anime saw Shidou Ryusei delivering the goods with a great performance, which included a spectacular bicycle kick that shocked the world. However, what surprised the fandom even further was how the Under-20s character began to talk about fertilization, how a shot is a seed, and a goal is an egg, meaning he got someone pregnant.

While the metaphor is certainly creative, it also rubbed some people the wrong way, mainly because it seems a bit over the top for a story that is centered around football. However, it is very clear that this 8Bit production is not aiming for complete realism when depicting this sport and is trying to add a larger-than-life approach to the story.

This is particularly telling when characters like Reo Mikage have a "technique" where they can copy other players' moves or someone like Meguru Bachira has a "demon" who speaks to him, which was part of the latter's arc in the first season. This series is trying to showcase the nature of football while also adding some of the histrionics that have defined anime and manga throughout the years.

More reactions online

This is not the first time that Blue Lock has had these discussions in the anime and manga community since this series has always been known for its antics and being over the top. There have been claims that this series is basically a battle shonen disguised as a sports manga.

This explains why the players have auras, such as the protagonist Yoichi Isagi constantly having a fire in his eyes or his feet or even Shidou displaying wings in the most recent episode.

All of this is meant to emphasize the moment and showcase the players' passion for what they are doing, which is something that Ego, the head of the project, has emphasized. The story focuses on celebrating a footballer's individual nature and the hunger to surpass anyone to achieve their dreams, thus having a very exaggerated approach to the sport.

"Just normal football things, sure seen that happen to Ronaldo at some point," someone said.
"Man shidou really said to everyone : 'Hold my sperm cells' Like how could bro s*xually Harass soccer," another person said.
"cant believe this is real im crying," someone else said.

It has been a very complicated season for the Blue Lock anime because of the declining animation quality, but the people at 8Bit are very likely to be pleased that the online discourse is now centered on things that happen in the story.
