Naruto side characters are some of the most well-written ones in anime. What makes them special is that, as compared to the majority of the anime, Masashi Kishimoto gives every character a chance to be involved in the main plotline of the series.

The biggest example of this is Itachi Uchiha, who is also considered by most fans their favorite character. Not only did he make Sasuke's origins more interesting, but the side character played a main role in the halting of the Fourth Great Ninja War.

Speaking of Itachi, there existed another member of the Uchiha clan whose appearance in the anime was even less than Itachi but he is considered, arguably, the strongest Uchiha from the series, Shisui Uchiha. An X user addressed the elephant in the room regarding this Uchiha, and surprisingly, most of the fandom agreed.

Do Naruto side characters deserve the same praise as the main characters?

The X user stated in his tweet about how characters from Masashi Kishimoto's masterwork had some of the most interesting supporting characters, such that each one of them could be featured in a story of their own.

The first character mentioned was Minato Namikaze. He was the savior of the Hidden Leaf Village the night Kurama was unleashed from the seal of Kushina. He not only sacrificed himself but also had to trap a horrific monster inside his newborn baby, hoping for a positive future.

The second was Itachi Uchiha. On the outside, he was a murderer who massacred his entire clan, but on the inside, he was just a pacifist who didn't like war and became the person who had to dirty his hands. Third was Kakashi Hatake, a man who had everyone close to him murdered, only to live as a teacher who was always smiling.

Lastly, there was Shisui Uchiha, the man who tried to avoid war by using a forbidden jutsu, but had his Kekkai Genkai stolen by Danzō and had to entrust everything to his brother-like friend, Itachi, before dying. Out of all these characters, Shusui became the talk of the town and fans admitted that, despite being one of the strongest and most intelligent Uchiha members, he was still a side character.

As expected, even though it was a hard pill to swallow for the majority of the fans, they agreed that Shisui was indeed a side character. He received less screen time as compared to the other supporting characters, which fans were also not shy to admit. Moreover, one fan even admitted that he liked the side characters more than the main characters.

"Shisui has barely any canon screentime but is a fan favorite character. No other show could do that like Naruto" another fan claimed

"I honestly find the side characters better than the mc" another one said

On the other hand, some fans added names to the list, mentioning side characters like the other shinobi who studied in the Ninja Academy alongside the protagonists. They stated that these characters also needed recognition. A fan continued the debate by saying that Minato and Kakashi also didn't receive much screentime either, just like Shisui Uchiha.

"Agreed and there are a lot more than these four too." a fan said

"Neji , Hinata, Rock lee , ten ten , Kiba deserved a special moment like Kakashi, might guy" another fan said

"We didn't get enough of Minato and Itachi" another one said

Final thoughts

Six light novel series were released to give characters a proper send-off after the finale of Naruto. These included Sakura, Gaara, Kakashi, and some others, but these were only illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto and written by different authors.

Moreover, a bunch of other books were also released to pay tribute to some characters after the series. The most famous is the Minato one-shot showcasing how the term 'Rasengan' was pinned.
