The series began in December 2004, and has released five total volumes as of April 2024. The series has also had its first two novels be adapted into manga series which ran in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine.

The series focuses on Kobato, who wishes to live a quiet and ordinary life after suffering an undisclosed “painful experience.” He and Osanai form a “mutually beneficial relationship” after realizing she also wants the same. Their story starts as two high school classmates planning to spend their peaceful days as ordinary people, but they keep getting wrapped up in mysteries and disasters one after the other.
