Shoshimin episode 1 recap
Episode 1 titled Sheep Costume, began with a speedy introduction of the two main characters, Jogoro Kobato and Yuki Osanai. The pair had been accepted into the same high school, Funato High School. Alongside them, viewers were also made familiar with the major supporting character, Dojima Kengo.
Moving forward, Yuki's love for strawberry tarts, and sweets in general was brought to the forefront. The pair visited a cafe and were seen tending to their sweet tooth. As the two conversed, it was revealed that Jogoro's parents owned a confectionery store that sold Japanese sweets.
This is also where viewers come to terms with the "rules" of being ordinary. According to them, an ordinary person mustn't stand out. He/she should spend each day in peace and avoid anything that would interfere with it.
The scene then shifts, presumably to the next day, where Jogoro and Yuki were seen heading to buy limited-edition strawberry tarts. However, their little trip was interrupted by Kengo, who presented Jogoro with a case of a stolen pochette. After a bit of hunting, Jogoro deduced and arrived at the truth.
One of the students had developed an affection for the pochette's owner. So, attempting to confess, he endeavored to place a love letter in it. However, rethinking his decision led to him hiding the pochette till he found a suitable moment to return it.
Events then proceeded to Jogoro and Yuki's narration, speaking of a "promise" and their path to "becoming completely ordinary". The episode ended with the pair making it in time to collect the final two Spring-exclusive strawberry tarts. However, their joy was short-lived as someone discarded and ruined the tarts right before their eyes.
What to expect from Shoshimin episode 2?
Studio Lapin Track adapted the series' prologue, chapter 1, and chapter 2 part 1 of the source material. According to this pacing, Shoshimin episode 2 will likely cover the rest of chapter 2 (parts 2, 3, 4) and possibly end the episode with an introduction to the next chapter.
In episode 2, following the tragedy of the strawberry tarts, Yuki would be seen visibly distraught and skipping school the next day. Jogoro would have another run-in with Kengo. The former's "wisdom work" would be required once more. Asuke Katsube would make an appearance too and bring another case to him.
