One of the most highly anticipated anime sequels of the Summer 2024 season is undoubtedly Shy season 2, continuing the relatively low-key but nevertheless lauded first season of the anime. Produced by Eight Bit Studios (stylized as 8bit), the anime premiered with a 12-episode first season in October 2023, running until mid-December 2023.

Likewise, with the first episode of season 2 having already premiered, fans are curious to learn the overarching release details of Shy season 2. This includes the episode count, expected release dates for each episode, and more. Thankfully, this information has all been officially confirmed, pending any unforeseen delays for the series.

How many episodes will Shy season 2 have?

Per the latest available information, Shy season 2 is expected to have 12 episodes. This information was initially confirmed before the airing of the first season. Technically speaking, season 2 is simply the second course of season 1, which was announced to have 24 episodes in total. However, given that the two cours aren’t airing consecutively, the second cour is being colloquially referred to as the second season.

The second season officially premiered with its first episode on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 12:30 am Japanese Standard Time (JST). The anime premiered on the TV Tokyo network and its affiliate stations.

In Japan, the series is airing weekly on the TV Tokyo broadcast station and its affiliates. The series will also make each episode available for streaming in Japan roughly 24 hours after its initial release. These streams can be found on the U-NEXT and d Anime Store services. The Friday after an episode’s release, it will hit additional Japanese streaming platforms, such as ABEMA Premium, Unlimited Anime, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, DMM TV, and others.

International audiences can stream the episode on Crunchyroll after the episode airs in Japan, with the streaming service having already confirmed this in their Spring 2024 lineup news. In addition to the original Japanese language, Crunchyroll will also be streaming dubbed versions in English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and German languages.

Those anime lovers in Asia, but outside of Crunchyroll’s availability for the series, can rely on Muse Asia to stream the series, as was officially announced several weeks ago. Indian fans will be able to stream the series on Crunchyroll, but other Asiatic regions will likely need to default to Muse Asia’s YouTube channel to stream the series.

What to expect from Shy season 2?

Following Teru and co’s fights against Stigma and Amarariruku from season 1, the second season is set to introduce new heroes and antagonists alike, given how powerful Stigma is. This is further confirmed by the plethora of new castings for the series, which establish several new characters as waiting to be introduced.

However, Teru’s focus will likely now be on domestic matters in Japan, with some of these new characters helping out whatever Stigma is planning for Teru’s home country. This is further supported by the trailers for the second season, which see Japan come under attack by Stigma and what appears to be one of his new allies.
