With the release of Solo Leveling season 2 episode 1, the anime saw Sung Jinwoo return to our screens with a new look. The story continues from the Red Gate Arc as the protagonist takes Han Song-Yi along with him inside a C-Rank Dungeon to help her understand how dangerous life as a Hunter could get.
The anime's previous season saw Sung Jinwoo get picked by the System. With that, he became the only Hunter capable of leveling up. In time, Jinwoo took down several Dungeon Bosses and gradually leveled up. The anime season ended with him becoming a Shadow Monarch.
Solo Leveling season 2 episode 1: Han Song-Yi joins Sung Jinwoo in a dungeon
Solo Leveling season 2 episode 1, titled You aren't E-rank, are You?, opened with Sung Jinwoo sleeping on his bed after he returned from his Job Change Quest. Just then, he received a call from his sister Sung Jinah, notifying him about her Parent-Teacher Meeting.
Given the occasion, Jinwoo donned a fresh new look and visited Jinah's school. While Jinah's grades were great, her teacher asked Jinwoo for a favor. Her student, Han Song-Yi, a friend of Sung Jinah, had recently awakened and planned on leaving school to become a Hunter. Thus, she asked him to guide her. Jinwoo remembered Song-Yi from when he went on raids with Yoo Jinho and agreed to speak to her.
While Jinwoo tried to convince Song-Yi to continue going to school, she was too stubborn. Hence, he spoke with Sang-Min Ahn and arranged for them to join a dungeon raid organized by the White Tiger Guild. Fortunately, they were just in time for a C-Rank Dungeon raid. Unfortunately, soon after they entered the dungeon, the gate turned red, locking the Hunters away from the outside world.
Sang-Min Ahn immediately called the White Tiger Guild leader Baek Yoon-Ho and informed him about the Red Gate. Soon after, he arrived at the location to investigate the same. Elsewhere, Hwang Dongsoo arrived in Korea to hunt down Sung Jinwoo and Yoo Jinho. Jin-Chul Woo met with him at the airport and took him to the Red Gate's location.
As for the Hunters inside the Red Gate, they were attacked by a group of Ice Elves. Two arrows were shot at the group. One arrow killed a Hunter while the other was caught by Jinwoo. Seeing this, the Ice Elves retreated for the time being.
Soon after, the raid party leader Kim Chul suggested that the group be divided into two. He wanted the strong Hunters to join him to defeat the Dungeon Boss, while the rest were to survive by themselves inside the Dungeon. However, one of the White Tiger Guild Hunters Park Heejin had seen Sung Jinwoo catching the arrow shot by the Ice Elf. She was certain that Jinwoo wasn't an E-Rank Hunter, but an A or S-Rank Hunter. Thus, she joined Jinwoo's group.
After the two groups went their way, Jinwoo immediately took control of his group and gave them warm clothes to keep themselves cozy. While his group members had a lot of questions, he instructed them not to ask him anything. Right after, Jinwoo defeated an Ice Bear, had dinner, and went off to fight other Ice Bears.
This fight saw Jinwoo make use of his Shadows to fight the Ice Bears. While the Shadows managed to fight most of them, their boss was too strong. Hence, Jinwoo deployed Igris to fight the Ice Bear leader. As expected, Igris defeated the leader.
Elsewhere, Kim Chul's group was ambushed by Ice Elves. The A-Rank Hunter was the only survivor and managed to run away in time. Unfortunately, the Ice Elves were now joined by their leader Barca.
