Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1 retains the same vibe as the previous installment but executes them slightly differently. The episode begins with a flashback scene, showing Haruto's promise to Miharu as a child. Although Haruto has to leave the town, he assures Miharu that he will marry her once he grows up.

After studying hard, Haruto enrolls in the same school as Miharu. However, he observes that the girl has found many friends with whom she feels lively. The narrative for Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1 then shows Miharu, accompanied by her friends, Takahisa and Satsuki, meeting Masato and Aki.

At that moment, a magical summoning portal opens out of nowhere and transports them to the other world. Miharu, Aki, and Masato find themselves in an unknown land, with nothing but green mountains and vast fields in their sight. Suddenly, they notice a rogue person who captures them.

Elsewhere in Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1, Aishia, Celia, and Rio notice six pillars of bright light shooting up toward the sky. Besides the lights, Aishia observes Miharu's arrival in the Strahl region. She implores Rio to save them but doesn't specify their names. After reaching the valley, Rio discovers a mobile phone.

Meanwhile, the bandits forcefully throw Miharu's friends in a carriage to enslave them. When Miharu resists, they lock her inside a separate room. After a while, Rio arrives at the scene. He shows the bandits the mobile phone and asks whether they know someone who may have dropped it.

Eventually, Rio hears a cry from the carriage, forcing him to act against the bandits. He effortlessly defeats them and saves Satsuki and Aki. Later, he discovers that Miharu Ayase, his childhood friend, has also been transported to the other world.

Miharu expresses her gratitude to Rio, who introduces himself as Haruto. During their conversation in Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1, Rio recalls that Aki Sendo is Haruto's sister. Since Masato calls Aki his sister, Rio assumes Haruto's mother must have remarried, which explains why Aki and Masato have Sendo as their surname, not Amakawa.

After rescuing them from the bandits, Rio takes Miharu, Satsuki, and Aki to a safe location, using his magic to build a stone house. Shortly after, Rio reunites with Celia and Aishia, who are glad to see that Miharu and the others are safe.

Since Miharu and her friends are from Earth and don't know the native Strahl tongue, Aishia uses her magic to act as a communication link between them and Celia. Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1 shows Miharu and others enjoying a bath with Celia and Aishia, where they learn about Aishia's actual identity as a Spirit.

Meanwhile, Masato wonders whether they have been transported to the unknown region like a game. Although Rio hasn't played such games much, he seconds Masato's opinion. Yet, he adds that there's no reset button, unlike the games. Following that, Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1 shows Celia wearing a casual dress given by Aki.

Rio feels they must purchase some necessary clothes. Meanwhile, Miharu asks Rio whether he knows how to get back to Earth. She also reveals that their two other friends may have been transported to Strahl. Rio then recalls his backstory about how he got reincarnated to the other world after his accident. As such, he doesn't know how Miharu can return.

On the other hand, Celia feels there's a definite correlation between Miharu's arrival and the six lights they saw earlier. She also recalls that it's the year 1000 of the Holy Era Calendar. As such, Celia speculates the situation has something to do with the Legend of the Six Wise Gods.

According to Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1, when the six colored holy jewels shine 1000 years after the Divine Demon War, the brave heroes who embrace the Divine Equipment shall return to Strahl and lead the world of men on behalf of the Six Wise Gods.

Yet, neither Rio nor Celia know how the lore is connected to their situation. Meanwhile, Aishia feels sleepy as she has used too much energy. She almost falls asleep on Rio to recharge her mana. Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1 ends on a light-hearted note, with Rio trying to calm down everyone.

TMS Entertainment has done a decent job portraying the events from Yuki Kitayama's light novel series. While the episode slightly deviated from the source material, it captured the narrative's essence.

Unlike the previous installment, which relied heavily on story building and action, the sequel's first episode commenced with lighter notes, emphasizing Miharu Ayase, Satsuki, and Masato and their relationship with Rio/Haruto.

From the production's perspective, the episode was standard, with just animation and decent composition. The episode nicely set up the narrative for the rest of the season with an intriguing "Legend of the Six Wise Gods" lore.

Besides that, the main focus of Spirit Chronicles season 2 episode 1 was on the characters. Miharu, Masato, Satsuki, Celia, Aishia, and Rio all got their moment to shine in the episode. Now, it remains to be seen how the sequel builds up on the premiere for the next episodes.
