Manga creator Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia is great when it comes to depicting heroes' and villains' circumstances. However, it never really elaborated on the emotions that often come with such a profession, i.e., trauma.

Heroes in My Hero Academia are often seen risking their lives to protect peace and fight against evil. Hence, they are bound to experience situations that test their mental fortitude. Unfortunately, such emotions are often left unelaborated in a Shonen manga and the same can be observed in Kohei Horikoshi's manga.

Surprisingly, that's when Studio Bones came in clutch as they perfectly depicted protagonist Izuku Midoriya's trauma post-war in the My Hero Academia: Memories anime.

My Hero Academia: Memories depicts Deku's trauma perfectly

As fans might remember, My Hero Academia's Paranormal Liberation War Arc saw Katsuki Bakugo being impaled by Tomura Shigaraki's tendrils. This attack witnessed Katsuki Bakugo get gravely injured. While the hero did recover later, the event was bound to leave the characters with some symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

While Horikoshi showed how the war affected the populace and the change in citizens' impression of heroes, the manga series never truly depicted trauma. The closest depiction of heroes succumbing to negative emotions in the manga is when Deku leaves the U.A. and the introspection in the Todoroki family. Other than those events, the manga never really depicted trauma.

Surprisingly, Studio Bones decided to delve into this. In the fourth and final episode of the Memories anime, Deku and Bakugo are seen training with each other. During their sparring session, when Deku uses his Blackwhip, he is reminded of the time when Bakugo was impaled by Shigaraki's tendrils. This effectively saw Deku get distracted and end the session.

With that, the anime depicted how the thought of losing someone affected Deku. He felt guilty for not being able to protect others. While the series previously showed Deku's determination to protect others, it never managed to subtly portray his fear of losing them.

How fans reacted to the scene from Memories anime

Fans were stunned to see that Studio Bones had provided them with a much-needed original scene and took to social media to react to the same.

"BONES GIVING US WHAT HORIKOSHI HAS NOT!!!!!!! I AM STUNNED THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE FIRST," one fan exclaimed.
"EXTREMELY RARE BONES W," another added.

For the past few seasons, Studio Bones has been heavily criticized by fans due to its treatment of the My Hero Academia anime, especially focusing on the "blue sky" debacle. However, the animation studio surprisingly made amends through the anime-original scene.

"WYM WE GOT CANON PTSD IZUKU," one fan pointed out.
"No deku is literally having a flipping panic attack or sumn and bkgs just like 'you cant win like this get it together' BRO HES SCARED OF YOU DYING AGAIN," another added.

Many fans were surprised that they got to see Izuku Midoriya dealing with PTSD in the anime. Considering that the manga never really delved into it, fans did not expect the anime to touch upon the same.

While fans knew that Deku was scared of losing Bakugo, they never expected to witness the protagonist experiencing a panic attack from the thought of it.

"THE FLASHBACKS HELP. WHY AM I WATCHING A FANFIC RN," a fan said.
"THIS CANNOT BE REAL????" one fan added.

Other fans shared how watching the anime-original scene felt like watching fan fiction. Some were also unaware that the Memories anime had begun premiering and wondered where the scene was from.
