With the Jujutsu Kaisen manga inching closer to its end, fans have been having doubts about its ending. This is because while they wanted Yuji Itadori to defeat Ryomen Sukuna, the way the final fight ended did not sit well with the fans. Therefore, fans started questioning Gege Akutami's mindset going into the finale.

However, there is reason to believe that the King of Curses died most perfectly. In most shonen series where the protagonist is shown to be empathetic, the antagonist plays a stubborn character. They reject the protagonist's attempt to have them empathize but eventually give in, either switching sides or accepting other's perspectives. This wasn't the case for Sukuna.

Sukuna staying true to his character was the perfect end for him in Jujutsu Kaisen

The fight between Yuji and Sukuna effectively depicted the fight between an immovable object and an unstoppable force. This is because Yuji's soul was immovable while Sukuna's strength was unstoppable. Sukuna hated Yuji's ideals and rationality. The King of Curses believed that ideals were worthless and that individual selfishness to appease desire was natural.

With that revelation, the manga asked the question, "who will teach Sukuna about love?" Evidently, the strongest sorcerers were always the loneliest, whether it was Satoru Gojo, Hajime Kashimo, or Ryomen Sukuna. This is also why after Gojo passed away, he felt sorry for Sukuna. Given their strength, people often failed to view the strongest as humans and considered them monsters.

Both Gojo and Sukuna were natural disasters. The reason Satoru Gojo remained a human was because of his choices, which saw him carry his ideals and pass them on to the next generation, i.e., Yuji, Yuta, etc. However, Sukuna viewed the world differently as he saw strength as the only defining factor for one's position in society.

This is why upon seeing Sukuna "suffer" without love, the strongest from each generation, who could have suffered the same consequences, tried to help the King of Curses by defeating him out of respect for his strength. However, Yuji did things differently.

Unlike others who tried to defeat Sukuna, Yuji showed him mercy. Yuji was convinced that the only reason Sukuna turned into a monster was because he lacked love during his upbringing. Had Sukuna been given the chance to live a human life, things could have been different.

Yuji Itadori wished to give Sukuna the chance to live a human life alongside him. This is why through his domain, he tried showing Sukuna the beauty of life. He did not have to live like a curse and could live a normal life as a human. Yuji deduced that Sukuna's isolation was what caused his mentality to focus solely on his strength. Hence, he empathized with him for his lack of love and the hatred that society imposed on him.

However, empathizing with someone's emotions meant understanding their flaws. Evidently, Ryomen Sukuna had never known weakness. Thus, he viewed Itadori's mercy as the biggest insult. Hence, Sukuna planned to kill everyone Yuji cared about.

Following that, as fans would know, Sukuna refused Itadori's offer to live a human life with him, staying true to his nature as a curse. This is why, despite fans' alternate thoughts about the ending, as far as Sukuna's story was concerned, there could have been no end more befitting to his nature.
