At this point, countless theories have been formulated surrounding the origins of Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna. With little known from the story itself, fans have delved deep into the lore of the series to pick up on the smallest of details that might hint at where the Demon King comes from.
But rather than being separate, the answer to that question could be tied to the protagonist, Yuji Itadori. A popular trend has surfaced in the fandom, which suggests that both Yuji and Sukuna have seemingly had similar beginnings. Moreover, it could be the reason they were so uncannily alike.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna and Yuji's origins might be more alike than what meets the eye
Not much is known of Sukuna's origins, apart from the fact that he was once a sorcerer who ventured too far into the dark arts. The result was that he became a Curse and came to be known as Ryomen Sukuna, given his extreme power and ruthlessness.
The theory mentioned earlier speculates on how Sukuna came to be by combining details from the Sukuna vs. Kashimo fight and the Demon King's talks with Uraume. To begin with, while facing Kashimo, Sukuna states that he was "born a Cursed, unwanted little wretch." Further, he tells Uraume that he was "forced by his mother's blight" to consume a fragment of himself, i.e., his twin.
Putting these facts together, there could have been two possibilities: first, Sukuna was born half-human, half-Curse. Due to this, he was likely conscious as a fetus, and his Curse side compelled him to consume his twin (since Curses consume human flesh).
Second, Sukuna was more Curse and his twin was more human. Since in the Jujutsu world twins are considered a single entity, him consuming his brother was a sort of "merging," which caused him to later assume the Demon form we see today.
With this established, let's move on to Yuji. The teenager's origins were revealed not too long ago and shocked the entire fandom. He was conceived of the union of Kenjaku (as Kaori Itadori) and Jin (Sukuna's twin). Moreover, like Chose, Eso, and Kechizu, he is one of Kenjaku's experiments and a Death Painting.
The similarity lies in the fact that both Yuji and Sukuna (speculative) were not born fully human. If that is truly the case, then Yuji's superhuman strength has been explained.
As for Sukuna, already being half-Curse allowed him to develop into the Demon King and likely also have a simpler time converting himself into a Cursed Object.
Final Thoughts
This theory takes its place among the numerous Jujutsu Kaisen theories formulated thus far. Yuji's origins were established a couple of chapters ago, and it was also revealed that Sukuna knew of them, for the most part. But little light has been shed on his own beginnings.
Gege Akutami's series has proven to be a masterpiece with the kind of engagement and reach it has acquired in not a very long time. The series shows no signs of slowing down at the moment as the supposed final arc rages on, with each chapter offering a new twist.
