Sumire Kakei from the Boruto series is a character who has raised a few eyebrows among manga readers, especially after the Omnipotence incident that Eida had caused. This was a Shinjutsu technique, also known as a Divine Technique, that affected almost everyone. However, there were a few who were immune to its effects and Sumire was one of them.

This led to plenty of interesting discussions regarding the character and her abilities. There isn’t much that we know about the character since she is shrouded in mystery and fans have reason to believe that the manga will eventually reveal her true powers.

There are theories that have looked into Sumire’s origins, and they believe that she could be linked to the Otsutsuki clan, and the speculations revolve around her unique bloodline.

Boruto fan theory attempts to explain Sumire’s potential link to the Otsutsuki Clan

The most important piece in this theory has to do with Sumire and her mother’s bloodline. Speculations suggest that the bloodline is the dot that connects Sumire, the Otsutsuki Clan, and more importantly, the Gozu Tenno seal. This is a technique that was created by Sumire’s father, Tanuk Shigaraki. He was a scientist for Root, an organization that was created by Danzo Shimura, which was disbanded after his death.

The creation of the technique was linked to the way his family was treated for being a part of the Root. Gozu Tenno is a sealing technique and it allows the caster to surgically implant Hashirama cells on the vessel, and this would create a portal to another dimension wherein a large beast called Nue resides. Sasuke Uchiha, who saw this technique stated that it was very close to techniques that Kaguya Otsutsuki had at her disposal.

The seal itself carries a great deal of risk, yet Tanuki had enough conviction that his daughter would survive. Tanuki stated that implanting Hashirama cells in regular human beings can almost kill them instantly. However, Sumire survived this procedure at the tender age of eight.

Sumire Kakei was not only eight years old when this procedure took place, but she also survived it without having to undergo additional modifications to her body. The only other shinobi who managed to pull this off was Madara Uchiha and it took him years to adapt.

On the other hand, Sumire managed to almost do it instantly. Therefore, Boruto fans have reason to believe that her bloodline was special. There is a chance that the Kakei bloodline could be a direct Otsutsuki descendant, and the Root managed to get a hold of this information, leading them to brainwash its members to serve the organization.

Furthermore, there is almost no information presented to viewers about Hakobe Shigaraki, who hailed from the Kakei bloodline. There is a possibility that Hakobe was the chosen vessel for the Gozu Tenno seal. However, the degenerative disease that claimed her life threw a wrench in Root’s plans. This, in turn, could explain why they decided to perform the sealing technique on Sumire instead.

Furthermore, the name Kakei refers to a bamboo pipe that is used to supply water. Kaguya Otsutsuki is inspired by Kaguya-hime, who is an important character in a story called Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. These are some of the reasons why fans believe Sumire could be an Otsutsuki descendant in the Boruto series.
