Dragon Ball Daima featured Super Saiyan Kid Goku in episode 7 for the first time in the series, and that decision has been divisive, to say the least. That is because this is the first time that the character's kid version has used transformation since the GT days in the 90s with a different time of art style and animation, which has generated a lot of debates on X.

There was always going to be a comparison between Dragon Ball Daima and GT because the protagonist went through a similar transformation in both series, and Super Saiyan Kid Goku's design was bound to generate debates. This also leads to some debates involving opinions of both projects and the evolution of author Akira Toriyama's artistic style.

Fans debate the look of Super Saiyan Kid Goku in Dragon Ball Daima with his GT version

Dragon Ball Daima episode 7 had Glorio fighting Goku, and the latter chose to use Super Saiyan for the first time since he was turned into a kid in the series. This moment was long-awaited by the fandom and has split opinions since an X account named @DBPerfectShots posted a frame of Super Saiyan Kid Goku in both Daima and GT.

Despite both series being produced by Toei Animation, GT happened in the 90s and Daima in 2024, so there are natural differences in terms of the style, colors, and so on. This is a natural difference that was bound to split opinions, with some feeling that the GT version is a bit sharper and dynamic while others think that the Dragon Ball Daima one fully captures his status as a kid a lot better.

It is also worth pointing out that these differences are a snapshot of author Akira Toriyama's art style and how it has evolved throughout the years. GT captures more of the mangaka's latter style of the original series, with usually bulkier designs and sharper edges, while Dragon Ball Daima is his modern approach, with slimmer characters, bigger heads, and rounder edges.

Reactions online

There were a lot of varying opinions because it also shows where each person's preference lies, which has been a running debate since Super started. A lot of fans have discussed which was the superior sequel between Super and GT, with now Dragon Ball Daima stepping into the ring, with this version of Goku serving as another example of these discussions.

A good percentage of fans still believe that GT was the superior sequel because it featured a natural progression for a lot of characters and had solid concepts such as the Super Saiyan 4, Baby, and the Shadow Dragons. On the other hand, people believe that Super and Daima are truer versions of Toriyama's vision because he wasn't that involved in GT and the latter is not canon, which is another argument thrown into the discussion.

"Daima is way better lmao, it actually makes him look like a kid with the smooth edges on his face instead of everything being sharp," someone said.
"Gt infinitely better than daima so far," another person said.
"Gt easily. Gt's artstyle was amazing," someone else said.

Naturally, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and every fan is entitled to their opinion, with both art styles having their own sets of virtues and flaws. Moreover, this discussion serves as a way to understand the fandom and how the legacy of these sequels to the original series has been quite divisive throughout the years.

"Daima Goku looks more like a Kid Goku and GT looks like a shrunken adult Goku," someone else said.
"I prefer the GT shot. Mostly because it copied Toriyama's mid 90's artstyle which I prefer over his modern artstyle that is emulated by Daima," another person said.

Dragon Ball Daima has been a considerable success thus but the Super Saiyan Kid Goku discussions shows how there are multiple points of views in the fandom.
