Taking over Boruto's body may not be Momoshiki's true goal

Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 15 was released on October 21, 2024, and the words of the protagonist confirmed that Momoshiki's return was closer than the fandom had thought. However, the return of the Otsutsuki could be in a way no one expected and it all goes back to the Fourth Great Ninja War when Black Zetsu betrayed Madara.

Black Zetsu used Madara's body to resurrect Kaguya, a process that could be considered similar to karma activation. However, unlike Madara, there isn't any suitable host for Momoshiki to resurrect inside. So, Momoshiki could use the Soul Thorn as a medium for his rebirth, just like Hidari, and return to the universe to join the battle for the chakra fruit.

Boruto: Why Momoshiki might not resurrect from a Soul Thorn instead of the protagonist

In the starting chapters of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the protagonist, accompanied by the Kage from every village, went against Momoshiki Otsutsuki who was planning to extract Earth's chakra fruit using Naruto's Nine-tails chakra. However, the Otsutsuki was outclassed by the protagonist and died, but before his demise, he left his life blueprint inside the protagonist as a Karma.

The protagonist would lose control of his body whenever the Karma was activated, and Momoshiki would wreak havoc. Ultimately, the protagonist avoided using the Karma until the time skip when using the Karma showcased the state Momoshiki had reached.

In Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 15, in a talk with Kawaki, the protagonist revealed that the next time he used Karma, he would meet Momoshiki's complete take over his body. However, Momoshiki taking over the protagonist's body could just be a simple move before his actual resurrection. The reason could be that the protagonist's body isn't strong enough to bear Momoshiki's rebirth.

This was hinted from the resurrection of Kaguya during the Fourth Great Ninja War in Naruto. Madara, who had already achieved Six Paths Senjutsu and the Rinne-Sharingan, was a strong host who could be used to resurrect Black Zetsu. So, what would Momoshiki use as a medium for his resurrection? That hint was also provided in the Boruto Two Blue Vortex manga series.

In chapter 13, the protagonist's Rasengan Uzuhiko killed Hidari and he was reduced to a Soul Thorn which had the potential to turn chakra trees back to their original states. However, Jura took the Soul Thorn back to Shinju's hideout and Hidari returned to the world unfazed.

This could mean that the Shinju already have a blueprint for each other and as long as a Soul Thorn is present, they could resurrect each other. This could form the basis of Momoshiki's rebirth as he could transfer his Karma from the protagonist to the Soul Thorn, thus returning to the world. Momoshiki would then join Code in the fight for the chakra fruit of Earth.

Final thoughts

While the theory does have a lot of potential to become true, it is still based on speculation because Soul Thorn's lore is yet to be fully explored in the series. Moreover, Momoshiki not resurrecting inside the body of the protagonist could be strange for the lore that the author has developed from the start. So, take this theory with a piece of salt.
