That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16: Benimaru's visit to the Tengu's village
Picking up the events from the previous installment, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16 begins with Rimuru Tempest welcoming the Tengus at the audience ceremony. It's revealed that Tengus are spawned from angels incarnated into the bodies of wolves.
Their existence is similar to Ranga's tribe, where an angel incarnates itself into an individual that spawns packs. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16 then reveals Momiji, the Tengu's representative, is the daughter of the Tengu elder, who's worshipped as the god of the mountains.
The episode then delves into a flashback, showing how Benimaru and Albis went to the Tengu's village in the Kusha mountains as envoys to earn permission for the highway's construction to Thalion. Only Benimaru and Albis were permitted to enter the secret village of the Tengus.
Momiji, the daughter of the Tengu's leader welcomed them and asked if they wanted to claim their land. However, Benimaru assured her that they only want their permission to pass the Kusha mountains and possibly let them dig a hole through the mountains for the highway construction.
Benimaru added that he won't force them. Meanwhile, Momiji and others became displeased at the offer. She also mocked Albis, calling her a "smelly snake." A battle ensued, which was eventually stopped by Benimaru, who demonstrated his Haze skill.
The narrative for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16 then showed Kaede, the elder of the Tengu arriving at the scene. She apologized on behalf of her daughter and complimented Benimaru's haze skill, something she also learned from her master, Araki Byakuya.
Kaede recounted her backstory, which revealed that she had been in a relationship with Hakuro, Araki Byakuya's grandchild in the past. Back then, Hakuro didn't have a name. She and the Ogre used to train in the Ogres village to sharpen their swordsplay skills. Eventually, Araki Byakuya died, but Hakuro and Kaede's relationship blossomed.
The Tengu elder became pleased to know from Benimaru that Hakuro was alive. Following that in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16, Kaede told Benimaru that she would accept Rimuru's request, only if Benimaru married her daughter.
Undoubtedly, the Tengu elder's request flummoxed the ogre. Eventually, Benimaru said he would think about it and let her know his decision later. He also apologized to Kaede for not being able to give an immediate answer before leaving the village.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16: Hakuro takes responsibility for Momiji's training
While leaving the Tengu village, Benimaru told Albis that Kaede might not live longer. Apparently, the Tengu leader had spent too much magicule while giving birth to Momiji and naming her. As such, even though she appeared lively, she was at weakened internally.
Following that, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16 returns to the present. Momiji greets Rimuru Tempest and says the Tengu tribe recognizes him as the ruler of the Jura Forest. However, she firmly tells the slime not to interfere in the Tengu's internal affairs.
During their conversation, Rimuru realizes Momiji is pensive about something. After probing further, he finds out that the girl is afraid of the Slime's association with the Demon Lord Frey. As the bird woman is after the Sorcerous Dynasty of Thalion (Sarion), Momiji feels the Demon Lord may want the Tengus to serve her as a subordinate.
However, Rimuru assures her that Frey has likely lost interest in Thalion and the Tengu village, especially because she's satisfied with Jura Tempest's new plans. Momiji breathes a sigh of relief and willingly pledges loyalty to Rimuru Tempest.
One of the Tengus then hands over a letter to Shuna, who reads them it aloud. She mistakenly reads a letter addressed to Hakuro. The veteran Ogre then arrives at the scene and realizes that Momiji is his daughter.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16 shows a beautiful moment between Hakuro and Momiji, as Hakuro takes responsibility for teaching his daughter the art of swordplay.
He also learns about Kaede's insistence on making Benimaru her son-in-law. Meanwhile, Shuna reveals a message from Albis to Benimaru, according to which, the girl intends to defeat Momiji in a battle and take the right to become his wife.
Benimaru is overwhelmed by the sudden proposals. Besides them, the ogre has captivated the hearts of Gabiru's sisters, Toka and Saika. Rimuru and his friends joke about Benimaru having a "harem."
In the end, Benimaru reveals that he wants only one spouse. Delighted, Momiji takes up Albis' challenge to win the right to be the red-haired ogre's wife.
Rimiru Tempest gives the matter his seal of approval, as long as it's not a death duel. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 3 episode 16 ends with Shuna and Shion proposing a match against each other to win the right to woo the Demon Lord's heart.
