The Ancient Magus' Bride is a Japanese manga series created by Kore Yamazaki. It is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment and serialized in the comic Growl manga website published by Bushiroad Works.

The main character of the series is an orphan Japanese highschool girl Chise Hatori who chooses to sell herself at an auction so that someone else can take her in and give her a new place to call home after being shunned by her family and society.

Chise Hatori

The main character of the series is a Sleigh Beggy named Chise Hatori. She is Elias Ainsworth's apprentice and bride. She begins learning magic after being taken in by Elias and discovers that she has a gift for sleep magic. Still, she can also perform any magic at extreme difficulty.

Elias Ainsworth

Elias Ainsworth is one of the main characters in the series. Though his origins are unknown, he is a Mage, a being composed of both Fae and human parts. He is Chise Hatori's buyer and magic instructor.

Ruth

Ruth is a Church Grim and Chise's familiar. He is mentally connected to Chise. He was once a guard dog for a cemetery, chasing off ghosts and grave robbers. Isabel used to be his owner, and his name was Ulysse. He maintains his human form and first believes himself to be human until he remembers who he is.

Joseph

Joseph is a sorcerer who united with a being called Cartaphilus, taking its name and acquiring an eternal curse. He is the show's main antagonist.

Riichi Miura

Riichi Miura is the main supporting character in the series. He worked as the Forest Library's librarian.

Lindel

Named by his teacher and mentor Rahab, Lindel is a Mage and currently serves as the caretaker of the Dragons' Aerie. He was the first master of Adolf and Elias.

Alice Swayne	Alice Swayne is a Sorcerer and Mikhail Renfred’s apprentice.
Adolf Stroud	Adolf Stroud is a Sorcerer in college. He is a previous apprentice of Lindel.

Spriggan	A faerie named Spriggan works for Titania, the faerie queen. He views himself as a guardian of the hills and a defender of the remaining faerie, and he frequently defends the fae and their territories.
Will o’ The Wisp	Will o' The Wisp, sometimes referred to as Blue Flame is a Faerie who entices people away from safe routes.
Redcurrent	Redcurrant, a Leánnan sídhe, keeps watch over the household of Garland. Chise Hatori named her.
Merituuli	Merituuli is a Selkie and Lindel’s Familier.
Hazel	Hazel is a Faerie, a Centaur, that works as a courier. He helps anyone who calls on him by delivering parcels and mail.
Shannon	Shannon is a doctor and a changeling. Shanahan is her spouse.
Shanahan	Shanahan, who now lives in the faerie realm, was formerly a Human. Shannon is his spouse.
Heralds of Yule	Heralds of Yule are two beings that appear when Yuletide draws near and alert people to its impending arrival.
Ashen Eye	Ashen Eye is an old Faerie.
The Deer	The Deer is one of the ancient gods of Winter and Death.
Morrígan	Morrígan is an ancient god of Winter and Death.
Brigid	Brigid is Morrígan’s daughter.
Seth Noel	Auctioneer Seth Noel works in the Black Market. Subsequently, it comes forth that he is also Lucy Webster's elder brother, having nurtured her since their parents passed away.
Simon Cullum	Simon Cullum is an acquaintance of Elias. He is the village priest who oversees the area close to Elias's home.
Mina	Mina was Matthew's wife. She was born with a fragile physique, and although her husband attempted to assist her, Cartaphilus fooled him, causing her to melt and become a part of the stagnation by the lake.
Matthew	Matthew was Mina’s spouse.

Shouji Hatori	Shouji Hatori is Akiko Hatori's spouse. He is the father of Daiki and Koki Hatori and the uncle of Chise Hatori.
Akiko Hatori	Chise Hatori's distant aunt Akiko Hatori was raised by Shouji Hatori alongside her two boys, Daiko and Koki, after the latter was obliged to take her in to avoid a bad reputation.
Cartaphilus	After living for more than 2,000 years in the unknown, Cartaphilus was eventually found and combined with a guy by the name of Joseph.

Zoe Ivey	Zoe lvey is a college student who studies alongside Beatrice. Born to a wizard and a Gorgon who fell in love, he is a Half-Gorgon. Like Chise, this is his first year.
Veronica Rickenbacker	Veronica Rickenbacker, referred to as Lady Veronica, is a student in the College and is seated next to Chise in Narcisse Maugham's class. She is reported to frequently be seen with Philomela and April and May Atwood.
