The Daily Life of a Middle-aged Online Shopper in Another World anime will serve as the television anime adaptation of author Hifumi Asakura and illustrator Yamakawa’s original light novel series. The light novels began in May 2018, and are still ongoing today. Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global and Comikey publish the manga digitally, with the former platform describing its story as follows:

“Ken'ichi, a single man who's almost 40, is suddenly transferred to another world. As he navigates his way through the dangerous forests of that world, he realizes that he can use a huge online shopping site. Ken'ichi aims to use his cheat ability to live a slow life in another world!”

In other words, the isekai series will focus on protagonist Ken’ichi as he tries to survive in another world using newfound skills not present in our reality. Promotional material shows Ken’ichi eventually making friends and forming a group of allies, each filling a different archetypal role in the series. Fans can expect to meet these newfound allies and more characters in the anime’s first episode and beyond.

The first episode is unlikely to focus on any other central characters, instead wholly devoting its time to familiarizing viewers with its main character. While other central characters may appear, it’s unlikely that they’ll be a main focus of the episode’s events.

Episode 1 should also begin introducing what overarching narrative there is to the series, if any at all. This is the typical format most modern isekai follow, wanting to hook viewers in with a promise of epic battles and journeys to come.
