The Daily Life of a Middle-aged Online Shopper in Another World episode 1 began with Kenichi seemingly dying on Earth and being summoned to the new world. He discovered his two skills were Item Box, a storage mechanic, and Shangri-La, which let him use an in-series shopping website from his Earth in this new world.
By exchanging items he found in the world for money, he could then purchase Earthly items on Shangri-La and receive them in the new world.
Likewise, he was able to sustain himself until escaping the woods he was in. He then got a ride to the city of Dahlia in the Kingdom of Kadan from a merchant named Fuyou.
In Dahlia, he first met Azalea, who ran the restaurant/lodge where Kenichi began renting a room. She helped him learn to read and write in the new world’s language so he could become a merchant, with Kenichi eventually successfully registering with the Merchant’s Guild.
Kenichi then set up a stall, where he met several characters, such as another merchant named Anama, a maid named Margaret, a cat beastfolk named Myaley, and an apparent nobleman.
Additional characters introduced included a young girl seemingly on the run named Anemone, and Margaret’s employer Primula of the Mallow Trading Company. The episode ended with a focus on Anemone specifically, seeing her in the woods Kenichi escaped earlier.
