In episode 3 of The Elusive Samurai, Yorishige, Tokiyuki, and others travel together. Tokiyuki reflects on his first battle, thanking his peers for helping him defeat Muneshige. Yorishige advises Tokiyuki to maintain his pride as a Hojo orphan and strive to become an admirable warrior, assuring him that this will enable him to defeat anyone in their "game of tag." Tokiyuki vows to defeat Takauji.

The next day, Tokiyuki finds himself in a hole. Yorishige greets him and explains why he made those decisions. After pulling Tokiyuki out, they arrive at the Suwa Grand Shrine, where Yorishige wants to start Tokiyuki's martial and academic training. Reluctant, Tokiyuki tries to flee but falls into another hole. Shizuku encourages him to give Yorishige a chance.

Several days later, Yorishige overhears a conversation about Tokiyuki's earnestness but lack of motivation to study. Yorishige demonstrates his godly powers, clearing the skies and leading a chant among Suwa Sect warriors. He tells Tokiyuki that believing in him will attract more support. Tokiyuki reluctantly agrees to study.

Yorishige advises Tokiyuki to gather retainers, explaining their value. Tokiyuki, Kojiro, Ayako, and Shizuku go hunting but encounter an ox demon. They retreat, formulate a plan, and defeat the demon. Celebrating at a hot spring, they name their group "Elusive Warriors." They later find Yorishige eating the ox demon. The episode ends with a group of men planning to visit Suwa to confront Yorishige.
