In Episode 5 of The Elusive Samurai, the narrative begins with a Suwa resident commenting on Sadamune's lead over Tokiyuki in their ongoing dog-shooting competition. The episode then dives into the fierce contest between Tokiyuki and Sadamune, where Tokiyuki initially struggles.

Yorishige advises Tokiyuki to combine his evasion skills with his shooting prowess if he hopes to overcome Sadamune. After a moment of contemplation, Tokiyuki shoots Sadamune in the neck, earning two points and causing Sadamune to fall from his horse.

Seizing the opportunity, Tokiyuki executes a Parthian Shot, clinching his victory.

Yorishige then confronts Sadamune, reminding him of their prior arrangement, prompting an angry outburst from Sadamune. As Sadamune departs, he reflects on his battle with Tokiyuki, briefly questioning whether Tokiyuki could be a member of the Hojo family before dismissing the notion, believing Yorishige wouldn’t be so reckless.

Meanwhile, Yorishige reveals to Tokiyuki that he has spread rumors of "Hojo clan sightings" across Japan to distract their enemies.

The scene shifts to an elderly man sharing his grievances with a boy named Genba. He imparts his principles to Genba, hoping the young boy will adhere to his advice. The story then returns to Tokiyuki and his companions, who spot Sadamune approaching.

Sadamune informs Yorishige of a new Imperial Command requiring Yorishige to relinquish the lands north of Lake Suwa to Ogasawara, with the retainers given 10 days to relocate.

Yorishige convenes a meeting with the Suwa inhabitants, some of whom advocate for war, but Yorishige refuses. He asks everyone except Tokiyuki to leave, then tasks Tokiyuki with recruiting Genba to the Elusive Warriors and orders him to steal the Imperial Command from Sadamune’s residence.

Yorishige explains that if the person Sadamune mentioned goes missing, it would buy them time to strategize.

Tokiyuki and his companions travel to Kikyogahara Village in search of Genba, only to be met with fearful locals. Genba eventually appears, and after a brief introduction, Tokiyuki asks him to join the Elusive Warriors. Genba considers selling out Tokiyuki to Sadamune but ultimately demands 100 Kanmon in exchange for his silence.

However, Tokiyuki and his group propose a better offer, promising Genba a province that would allow him to earn significant wealth.
