With author and illustrator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga series on break this week, fans are eagerly theorizing what Chainsaw Man chapter 173 could have in store for them. Likewise, with the series lacking a regular spoiler process thanks to its digital publication nature, readers seem to be truly enjoying themselves as they discuss and theorize about upcoming events.

Unsurprisingly, many of these discussions on Chainsaw Man chapter 173’s events center around Yoru fighting Pochita’s Hero of Hell form, which is likely to happen given chapter 172’s final panel. Many are also asserting that War Devil Yoru will force Pochita to begin vomiting up Devils he’s eaten, considering her chief goal in fighting him is to retrieve nuclear weapons from his stomach.

However, the Famine Devil, also known as Fami, has her plans for Pochita in his Chainsaw Man form as well, which she has alluded to throughout recent stages of the manga’s second part. In fact, Chainsaw Man chapter 173 could use Yoru achieving her goal as a setup for Fami achieving her own, with the possibility hinging on Fami’s powers.

Chainsaw Man chapter 173 may use Pochita’s empty stomach as a means of letting Fami control him

It’s worth mentioning that this Chainsaw Man chapter 173 theory first assumes that Yoru will indeed fight Pochita and make him throw up in the upcoming issue. While this does seem incredibly likely, it’s not confirmed in any way, shape, or form, thus making the argument speculative. However, if it does happen, there’s a very clear path branching off from this development, which ends in Fami achieving her own goals.

As the Famine Devil, Fami embodies the fear of starvation or famine, which is made evident via her Enslavement ability. She’s able to turn those who are hungry or starving into her pawns which can do her bidding, even if the target in question is on the level of a Primal Fear Devil. With her plan seemingly hinging on her taking control of Pochita and having him do her bidding, it’s presumed that this ability would also work on the Hero of Hell.

Thus, Chainsaw Man chapter 173 can easily set her up to take control of Pochita and achieve her own goals via the Chainsaw Devil’s stomach being emptied. While it’s unknown if Pochita can truly feel the sensation of hunger or starvation, it’s assumed that the physical emptiness of his stomach would suffice as a prerequisite given that it’s a physiological response.

In other words, if starvation is viewed as the absence of food in one’s stomach, then Fami’s plan should work. If her target needs to mentally acknowledge and understand their hunger or starvation, then there is a chance that Fami’s plan does not work. However, Pochita’s previous appearance in his Hero of Hell form did see him demonstrate some fairly complex levels of thought and understanding, suggesting that Fami’s ability will likely work either way.

While Fami taking control of Denji in chapter 173 may be heartbreaking news to some, there are aspects of it to get excited over. One of the most exciting is the fact that this will likely lead directly into the Death Devil’s introduction, with Nostradamus’ prophecy only a few in-world months away from happening in the contemporary series. In turn, this could suggest that, like with part 1, Pochita’s appearance is marking the beginning of the end of part 2.
