Every One Piece arc offers a journey into almost every genre as fans of the series have experienced. Although the series is mainly focused on adventure comedy, the whole package comes as an overall experience of every genre.

Not only do the canon arcs offer proper enjoyment in these genres, but the filler arcs also don't hold back in such cases. Where the Marineford arc offered a nice experience of drama with the relationship of Monkey D Luffy and Portgas D Ace, the Reverse Mountain arc (filler arc) also didn't hold back with the sentimental relationship between Laboon and the Rumbar Pirates.

But when it comes to comedy, the majority of the fandom preferred an arc that was surprisingly a filler. This arc was the G-8 Marine base arc. The arc featured the introduction of the famous Condoriano and featured every Straw Hat Pirate in random shenanigans that made the fans laugh to the fullest.

Why G-8 is the funniest One Piece arc, despite being a filler

The G-8 One Piece arc is a filler arc that started after the Straw Hat Pirates returned from Skypiea island. Unfortunately, as they descended from the sky, they couldn't see where they were headed and landed inside the heavily guarded Marine base, the G-8. As soon as they landed inside the base, they abandoned their ship and scattered into random groups to avoid being spotted by the Marine officers.

This Marine base was famous for its reputation as the inescapable base, due to its only exit being a large mountain blocking the way. The captain of the crew, Monkey D Luffy, and the cook of the crew, Vinsmoke Sanji, tried to escape haphazardly. As fans would expect, with Luffy in the team, the first aim would be to secure food rather than to gather information about an exit.

These two managed to infiltrate the kitchen of the base and impersonate the cooks. Sanji also fell head over heels for one of the cooks named Jessica, who would later be revealed as the wife of the base commander of G-8 and the vice admiral, Jonathan.

Zoro, as expected, got lost and tried to find his crewmates without knowing he was surrounded by Marine officers. While roaming, he entered a building where Nami was impersonating a janitor. She scolded him and escaped alongside him.

Robin and Usopp were stuck together and where the former wanted to gather more information, the latter wanted to escape without notifying anyone. So, they went their separate ways. Right around this time, Commander Shepherd entered the base, angry due to the rain, and demanded to meet the Commander of the base. When he was declined, he went searching on his own and was attacked by Robin.

When he woke up, he was inside a jail alongside Usopp and Zoro, who were caught by Marines earlier. Shepherd demanded that he be let out because he was a Marine Commander.

This was the moment Usopp called him Condoriano, and spoke to him like he was Usopp's teammate. He acted confused and kept making demands until Zoro head-butted him.

Chopper, however, was being chased by the Marine officers not because they discovered he was a pirate, but because he was mistaken as a lucky tanuki. He, fortunately, reached the medical ward of the base and tried helping the injured Marines by impersonating a doctor.

While he was doing so, he was joined by Nami who had lost Zoro, to no one's surprise, and faked being a nurse. The Straw Hats were eventually reunited and now they had to face thousands of Marine officers and think of a way to escape.

Usopp used the Dials he brought from Skypiea Island alongside Sanji, Luffy, and Zoro and created an explosion, just like Thousand Sunny's Coup de Burst. The Straw Hats managed to survive while jumping above the mountain.

Fans' react to G-8 One Piece arc

The G-8 One Piece arc is one of the filler arcs of One Piece that most fans hold in high regard due to its epic comedy. Most of the fans wanted this One Piece arc to be canon, as its experience could be considered better than some canon arcs.

Moreover, another fan brought up the moment when Sanji schooled the Marines chefs on how to utilize each ingredient to its fullest. After Luffy and Sanji infiltrate the kitchen as cooks, Jessica insults Sanji's cooking. This led to a battle between the Marine chefs and Sanji. The Marine chefs went first and used every premium ingredient to prepare 100 luxury meals.

Followed by Sanji who utilized every ingredient the chefs wasted and prepared a cuisine that not only the chefs loved, but was also sent to the commander as a meal. Unfortunately, Luffy was held responsible for taking the meal to him and this was followed by another shenanigans.

"G-8 Arc was so good, it should've been canon. LOL. My favorite One Piece filler arc." a fan claimed
"My favourite one piece episode's are 196-206 aka the g-8 arc. It was just so freaking enjoyable to watch. I laughed wayy too much watching it. Easily one of the best arcs in one piece. Everything was perfect in it, literally. Miss that soo much. If u have watched it, ykwim (you know what I mean)." added another one
"When Sanji schooled the entire G-8 marine kitchen" said another one

A fan commented that the G-8 One Piece arc represented the peak humor in the series and that its humor was better than the post-time skip arcs. This could be true in some sense as after the timeskip, the Straw Hats couldn't partake in random foolery and were more focused on continuing their journey.

One fan busted an old saying when fans used to recommend not watching the G-8 and Skypiea arcs. Skypiea One Piece arc could be skipped because most fans thought it didn't offer any lore (which was false) and the G-8 One Piece arc because it was a filler. The fan advised current watchers to watch the arc at all costs.

One fan brought up an interesting question and asked if this One Piece arc would be featured in the One Piece remake. As of yet, no particular news has been shared regarding this arc, but fans could expect the remake to be a brief adaptation, adapting only the important One Piece arcs.

"G-8 Arc really is the best One Piece filler. The pacing, the story, the tension, the Metal Gear Solid situations characters get put through, the 4D Chess plays, and the humor. Especially the humor. Something Pre-Timeskip One Piece does better." one fan claimed
"If youre starting the one piece trek, i have one word of advice. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY AND WATCH THE SKYPIEA ARC, AND G-8 FILLER! HOLY F*CK THEYRE SO GOOD!" added another one
"The real question is will The One Piece have the G-8 arc" added another one

A fan shared his wish to include this arc in the upcoming season 2 of the One Piece live-action. While this One Piece arc hardly explored any lore, it does feature one of the best comedy moments in the series. Including it could be a game changer for the live-action.

Another fan paid homage to, arguably, the most famous filler character Condoriano (real name: Shepherd). He could be considered one of the reasons why the Straw Hat Pirates were able to escape the G-8 navy base.

Lastly, a fan brought up one of the most hilarious moments of this One Piece arc. After Sanji and Luffy escaped the kitchen, they reached the jail where Zoro and Usopp were trapped. Usopp urged Sanji to press the Dial attached to the jail door, which would break the door with an impact.

Sanji enthusiastically pressed it, but the impact of the Dial was just a recording from Usopp. Every Marine stood there confused as to what happened, while Sanji was dying of embarrassment. Usopp offered him another Dial, claiming it to be the correct one, but this was filled with Luffy's flatulence. This added to the embarrassment further.

"My unrealistic wish is for live action One Piece and/or the new anime, they do G-8; in the case of the live action one that would definitely be a season starting episode and this would be a *great* way to start a season." a fan added
"Very messed up that none of the One Piece fans I know ever mentioned the real 8th Straw Hat, Condoriano, without whom Luffy and the gang may never have escaped in the very canon anime only G-8 arc" another one added
"G-8 with condoriano, sanji using the wrong dial and everything is the most funniest in one piece" another fan added
