While Spy x Family established Donovan Desmond as the series's main antagonist from the beginning, the manga has yet to reveal much about him. The character has made multiple appearances in the manga, but fans have yet to learn much about the antagonist due to his recluse personality.

Fortunately, the latest Spy x Family chapter seems to have taken the manga in just the right direction with its developments as Melinda Desmond dropped a key detail about her husband Donovan during her therapy session with Loid Forger. Depending on how the manga deals with this detail will severely change everything fans know about Donovan Desmond.

Spy x Family's Melinda suggests her husband Donovan Desmond to be an alien

As seen in Spy x Family chapter 109, Melinda Desmond went to the hospital for a therapy session with Psychiatrist Loid Forger. She was suffering from headaches, insomnia, and diminished appetite, and wanted to get treated. As suggested by her, she was experiencing some distress involving her family. With that, she unveiled that her husband Donovan Desmond was an alien.

This development may sound like a silly conclusion Melinda, a person interested in the occult, might have drawn after observing her husband's behavior. However, the manga has provided fans with plenty pieces of evidence to suggest that this development is possible in the Spy x Family manga.

For starters, Donovan Desmond was the Prime Minister of Ostania when Project Apple was still active. As fans might remember, Project Apple was the research initiative that saw Bond Forger receive his powers to look into the future. The manga also suggested that the scientists who conducted the research were also responsible for Anya receiving her telepathic powers.

Hence, there is a chance that Donovan Desmond was an extraterrestrial who invaded the planet, hoping to create powers for others he already possessed. Otherwise, there is the possibility that Donovan wasn't an alien but as the Prime Minister initiated Project Apple or was a test subject in it, seeing him obtain the abilities created during the research initiative.

One can reach this conclusion due to Donovan's past and appearance. While the main antagonist is shown to be a recluse person always suspicious of others, as suggested by the Love and War Arc, this wasn't always the case.

As shown in the manga, while Donovan Desmond thought of all human beings as liars, he was bright-eyed and lively in the past. In contrast, in the present, he is shown as a closed individual, with sunken black eyes that are seemingly always open in a perfectly circular shape. The chances are Donovan went through some experimentation, causing him to lose his connection to reality.

As for his appearance, if fans may have noticed, Donovan has a line of scars on the sides of his head. While there is a chance that the scars are from the time he fought in the war, there is also the possibility that they are from experimentation he went through as a Project Apple test subject.

Another hint at this possibility is his first son, Demetrius Desmond's conduct. When Anya Forger tried reading Demetrius's mind, she realized that his thoughts were processed in a much different fashion than normal people. This suggests that Donovan Desmond may have included Demetrius in his plans, having him become a Project Apple test subject alongside him in the past.

Unfortunately, fans can only learn more about the series' antagonist after Spy x Family drops its next chapter in two weeks.
