Beyond just enhancing their abilities, the quartet starts to voice their doubts and fears, train their magic, and reaffirm their commitments to each other.
Elsewhere, Tristan undergoes a sparring match against Zeldris' bodyguard, Schwarz. Zeldris doesn't interfere, calling it a matter of pride. Schwarz was rude to Tristan, and their brief bout is a matter of pride.
Likewise, Four Knights of the Apocalypse, season 2 episode 10 revealed the Demon Realm's desperate hopes boost Percival's Hope Magic to unprecedented levels.
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 - Training and introspection
Everyone's training
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 opens on day one of Lancelot's training and how everyone is progressing. In short, everyone is struggling. Percival is still trying to hit Lancelot and get off Level 2, aka Macduff level.
Anne has trouble controlling her powers to the point where simply lying in her presence causes them to activate. Donnie can barely lift a rock beyond 25 feet, and Nasiens gets winded from a brisk jog.
Despite Percival getting a major power boost from the hopes of everyone in the Demon Realm, Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 reveals that it doesn't translate to good swordsmanship. Lancelot's worries about the various Mini Percival clones having separate personalities from Percival, and the mystery of Percival's revivals add to the difficulties.
Meanwhile, both Nasiens and Anne have troubles of their own. Nasiens is easily winded and outpaced by Anne. For Anne, she reveals her magic manifested a few minutes before her mom died. Her questions about Percival and Nasiens' confrontation in the prior episode led to Nasiens getting slammed to the floor, since Anne could not control her new magic.
Despite screaming like a Saiyan and trying his hardest, Donnie finds himself unable to lift the massive tower he's supposed to. He starts to set more manageable goals: lift a single brick beyond 25 feet, and gradually increase his telekinesis range. Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 marks some improvement, as Donnie hasn't been able to do this before.
Relationship woes and introspection
There are plenty of introspective moments in Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10, with relationship woes. Nasiens likes Percival as more than a friend but cannot admit it aloud, Anne is revealed to like Percival as more than a friend likewise and is in so much denial that her newly evolved magic knocks her out, and Isolde is in turmoil over Jade's unheard last words and true feelings.
Although slightly comedic, Anne's magic turning against her leads to understanding how her magic works. It puts pressure on those who lie, and increases the pressure with each subsequent lie. The pressure fades immediately when they confess to the lie. The pressure also applies to Anne, and it has no effect when someone other than Anne asks a question.
Anne and Nasiens continue to bond throughout Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10, including Nasiens confessing that he does have a crush on Percival and is conflicted about revealing Jade's true feelings. Anne and him go back and forth on revealing Jade's feelings, especially since Jade's death is still fresh for Isolde and everyone else.
On the subject of his crush on Percival, Anne tells Nasiens, emphatically, that his crush should be his to reveal. It's his feelings and his secret, and she denies him any opportunity to chicken out of it. Anne is not good about taking her own advice, she blushes hard when Percival admits how worried he was when she was knocked out.
Schwarz vs. Tristan
The last few episodes have put Tristan in a bit of a bind. Being half demon and half goddess is not a good thing in the Demon Realm, as many demons, including Schwarz, saw fit to insult Tristan, and Meliodas by extension. Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 has the two fight it out when Tristan challenges Schwarz.
Schwarz challenged Tristan to see how the successor to the Seven Deadly Sins could handle themselves. Zeldris called it similar to how Meliodas and he settled their differences, butting heads in the original Seven Deadly Sins.
Tristan gave it his all, meeting Schwarz slash for slash, and withstanding and healing from powerful blows that broke his ribs. But Scwarz's full demon form bested him and pounded him into a crater in the ground. Even the power of Ark and Slash Cannon didn't turn the battle in Tristan's favor.
Schwarz likewise decided to insult Meliodas and the other Seven Deadly Sins as being pushovers that couldn't have defeated The Ten Commandments if Tristan couldn't beat him. Schwarz declared that his demon brethren and he would oversee Percival to the Behemoth, setting out to do so.
Hope overloads Percival
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 shows how desperate the denizens of the Demon Realm are for Percival's aid, as many are still either sick or dying or despairing. When news of Percival's return to the Demon Realm spreads, a massive torrent of hope spirals into Percival.
This causes all of Percival's clones to fuse into one giant clone. The hope clone that Percival summons is human-sized, slightly taller than him, and more confident. He's also able to hit Lancelot and reforms when struck. According to this new and enigmatic version, he's what Percival can become.
The mystery only deepens when it is revealed to Percival that they're all a part of something bigger. Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 keeps the story beat of magic evolving into something much greater, with Anne's magic starting to change and Percival's seemingly revealing itself.
There's an air of mystery as Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 ends, with the being telling Percival that they're all part of a single being. The name of the being is revealed as Zarura N'Du.
What that means is not stated in Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10, and is another mystery left until later.
Final thoughts
Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 episode 10 would almost be considered a filler episode to the uninitiated, or at least a training arc and a half pushed down to an episode. To wit, the plot doesn't advance too much by the end of the episode, as the story slows down to focus on the characters, much like season 2 has throughout its runtime.
Thus far, the Demon Realm arc has consisted of four episodes. This is still not as long as the Chaos in Liones arc, which consisted of 10 episodes (11, if one counts the episodes Guin was kidnapped in). Usually, an arc in this series is adapted in four episodes maximum. Considering the Demon Realm arc in the manga is 25 chapters, just five away from the Chaos in Liones arc, it's no surprise it's gone on longer.
This episode gave much-needed emotional resonance to the characters, figuring out how Anne's new powers work while showcasing what Lancelot's training looked like in practice. Getting all this in one episode means the show and season can be more than nonstop fighting in each arc. It helps advance the ensemble cast as well, which Four Knights of the Apocalypse needed.
