With Blue Lock season 2 "Blue Lock vs. U-20 Japan" set to be released in October 2024, the anime has been releasing its trailers and promotional videos to build up hype around the anime. While fans were truly hyped for what was to come, the anime's second promotional video has seemingly backfired at 8bit.
Blue Lock season 2 is set to be released on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The anime is set to feature 14 episodes, adapting two story arcs, namely the Third Selection Arc and U-20 Arc. Considering that the U-20 Arc might be the best story arc in the series, fans were really hyped for the same. Unfortunately, they have set themselves up for a huge disappointment.
What is wrong with the latest trailer for Blue Lock season 2?
While the second promotional video for Blue Lock season 2 seems alright at first, the same isn't the case for the entire trailer. Evidently, scenes that show the characters without motion look good, but the same isn't the case for the animation of the football matches.
The animation studio 8bit is known for using CG animation. The same was also observed in the anime's previous season. However, the CG animation that can be seen in the second season's promotional video looks too bad. One could even say that rather than an anime, it looks like a cutscene from a video game released at least 20 years ago.
In addition, the studio has seemingly done a poor job in animating some of the most intense events from the Third Selection Arc, especially Ryusei Shidou's aerial backheel goal. Even if one were to ignore that, there are several instances when characters can be seen standing still while the one with the ball moves around.
Given the poor-quality animation showcased, one can only ask questions to 8bit as to why they even chose to showcase such clips as part of the anime's promotional video.
How fans reacted to the latest Blue Lock season 2 trailer
A few weeks ago, there was a leak that surfaced online about the upcoming Fall anime. The leaker allegedly asked fans to not have much expectations from Blue Lock season 2. While fans wished for the leak to be false, the second promotional video finally helped them understand what the leaker meant by their words.
"They were NOT lying when they said to NOT have high expectations for Blue Lock Season 2, cuz HOLY SHHH, WE are cooked. This is mostly just 3rd selection scenes, so hoping they go crazy for the U20 arc with Isagi, Shidou & etc…," one fan said.
"blue lock season 2 getting the tokyo revengers treatment we’re cooked," another added.
"Insane that somehow they managed to make it worse. Take Blue Lock away from 8Bit please, they can't hack it," another fan said.
The only thing fans were content about was the fact that the promotional video only showcased scenes from the Third Selection Arc and not the long-awaited U-20 Arc. Hence, fans had begun hoping that animation studio 8bit had shifted all their focus to the latter arc, which is why the former arc's animation didn't look as good.
Meanwhile, other fans had begun comparing the anime to Tokyo Revengers and Tower of God. While Tokyo Revengers has been observing poor animation from time to time, Tower of God followed a similar pattern to Blue Lock, i.e., a poorly animated sequel to a fairly well-animated first season.
"Literally what is wrong with this? its a still frame of animation vs a manga panel," another said.
"Blue Lock fans thinking that every anime screencap has to look like a manga panel," other fan said.
Some anime fans did try to defend the animation studio as besides the poor CG animation, there wasn't much wrong with the animation. As per them, hoping for every anime screencap to look the same as the manga panel was just wishful thinking. Hence, the anime wasn't as bad as fans were portraying it to be.
