Since Madhouse concluded the Hunter X Hunter anime in September 2014, fans have eagerly anticipated the release of Hunter X Hunter season 7. However, for over a decade, the wait for this announcement had been a pipedream.

Manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi was constantly forced to stay on hiatus due to his chronic health issues. Fortunately, his current work schedule suggests otherwise. This is because the manga creator's tweets on X suggest that he is set to prepare a good number of chapters by the end of 2024.

If that is the case, the chances of Hunter X Hunter season 7 getting greenlit seem far from zero. All there is to see is whether Madhouse wants to delay the anime adaptation further or act on it as soon as possible.

How does Togashi's work schedule open up the possibility for Hunter X Hunter season 7?

As fans might remember, there have been two Hunter X Hunter anime adaptations to this day. The first anime was adapted by Nippon Animation, while the second anime was adapted by Madhouse. While the first anime adapted up till the Greed Island arc, the second anime adapted to the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc.

This is because, while there were more chapters available to adapt at the time, Yoshihiro Togashi's schedule wasn't consistent enough. Hence, if Madhouse had continued with Hunter X Hunter season 7, they would have been left stuck at an odd spot for quite a while. Hence, the animation studio finished the anime at a story point where it would seem okay to conclude it, i.e., just after Gon reunited with his father, Ging Freecss.

Following that, Yoshihiro Togashi went on several long breaks due to his health issues. Even when he would return, he wasn't able to continue working for long. Therefore, the possibility of the anime returning diminished with time.

However, the manga creator has now returned to work. While he is still battling his health issues, he has been seemingly working nonstop to create as many chapters as he can. As per his tweets, he has already finished inking up till chapter 422 and plans on completing the inking work for up till chapter 430 by the end of the year.

If the manga creator succeeds in accomplishing his goal, there will be over 90 chapters from the manga that are yet to be adapted as part of the anime. Hence, Madhouse could finally start working on Hunter X Hunter season 7 anime.

While there is a lot to consider before making such a decision, the fact that the manga finally has enough source material for an anime season with about 24 episodes does open up the possibility for Madhouse to consider Hunter X Hunter season 7. As fans would know, the animation studio is currently working on Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 2. Therefore, Madhouse could switch their priorities after the same is released.
