While fans were expecting Tower of God season 2 episode 3 to begin the next test, what was likely unexpected by most was the type of test that would be held. Officially released on Sunday, July 21, 2024, the series essentially forced its test takers to align themselves into teams fighting against each other and Bam.
Meanwhile, Bam was invited to a personal showdown with Mule Love in Tower of God season 2 episode 3, being baited in via a reward that would allow him to have his way. However, the protagonist’s overconfidence may be his own undoing, as Love seems to be the toughest challenge he’s faced yet in the series.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 gives Bam his biggest challenge yet as the next test begins
Brief episode recap
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 opened up with a focus on Ja Wangnan and Nia in their room, where Nia found a deck of cards in one of the drawers. Focus then shifted to Mule Love and the Chief Test Director, where the latter told the former not to let a personal grudge play into this. Love refused initially, leading to some childish antics from the Chief Test Director, which didn’t get Love to budge at all.
Focus then shifted to Bam and Yeon Yihwa’s room, where he hilariously upset her. Focus then shifted to Ja and Nia inviting Arkraptor, Kang Horyang, and Miseng and Goseng to play card games in their room. However, when they arrived, a strange woman was making friends with Miseng. Arkraptor stepped in to ask where Goseng went, clearly suspicious of the woman and her intentions.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 saw him tell the woman to leave before telling Miseng not to eat the candy. This caused her to start crying just as Goseng returned. The six then all returned to Ja and Nia’s room to play card games with one another. Horyang and Miseng then departed to get ready for bed, as Goseng mused about leaving the tower and living together as a group before leaving herself.
Later that night, Ja and Nia fully devoted themselves to passing the test before bed. However, an alarm began ringing out from the remotes they were given. This marked the start of their test, The Trustworthy Room. Teams of seven or players must secure six rooms, using their remotes to select a leader and gatekeeper for each room. The former can recruit allies or steal rooms, with the allies and rooms attained by the leader’s allies also being transferred to them.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 explained that gatekeepers can only own rooms and that rooms can only be taken from gatekeepers. Leaders transfer ownership of captured rooms to their allies, appointing new gatekeepers for each room likewise. However, leaders cannot be gamekeepers. To recruit allies, the leader’s connector and the ally’s connector must both be inserted into the remote before pressing the blue button.
Transferring rooms is the same process, but with the gatekeeper’s connector substituted for the ally’s, the red button must be pressed. The remotes are also used to lock and unlock rooms that have been captured. One team member must always be in each room with the remote, and the sixth room any team may capture must be Room 608. This is revealed to be Bam and Yeon’s room. Acquiring seven members and six rooms in total leads to a win.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 saw Love explain that these rules apply to everyone, but Bam will also have his own rules. Love has his connector, with both his and Yeon’s roles. If he’s able to take his connector from Love and the room from Yeon, or if there are fewer than seven test takers left due to combat, he wins. With that, the test began.
Goseng left Miseng as their room’s gatekeeper, telling her not to open the door for anyone else. Meanwhile, Prince decided to leave Rapdevil in the room while he left. In Bam and Yeon’s room, the latter was seen refusing to let the former leave. She tried doing so by force, but Bam easily defeated her with some sort of ability that stopped her from moving. However, as he went to leave, Prince showed up at the door but was also easily dealt with using the same ability.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 saw Miseng approached by the woman from earlier, while Horyang guarded his room and Arkraptor’s room, and the latter went to protect Miseng. As Arkraptor pounded on their door when they didn’t answer, he had flashbacks of his daughter being taken away from him. Miseng eventually answered and said she couldn’t open the door because of Goseng, but she still asked him to stay since she was scared of being “alone.”
However, the old woman returned, trying to convince Arkraptor to join her and gang up on Miseng and Goseng. He immediately rejected this and attacked her, starting the exam’s first true fight. Meanwhile, Nia and Ja were staying in their room as Goseng entered. She then gave them her connector so they could be teammates, saying that she was inspired by Ja’s confidence and wanted to continue working with him.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 saw Kim Lurker approach Prince and claim Rapdevil had been killed. Goseng and Ja reunite with Arkraptor, who lets them into Miseng’s room. Prince and Kim then returned to the former’s room, seemingly confirming Rapdevil’s death as the pair were approached by two other test takers asking to be their teammates. The focus then shifted to Bam, who had found Love.
They discussed how another Slayer candidate named Karaka passed the test by killing a specified Regular, helping a Regular pass an exam, or having all other entrants fail an exam. Love pointed out that since these all ignore the rules of the exam, he has no reason to respect Bam if he doesn’t respect the rules.
Tower of God season 2 episode 3 then saw Love explain a game they’d play, which involved Bam catching his connector before it was thrown from one baseball glove to the other. Bam would get three attempts, and failing to catch it a single time leads to a fail. However, if he gives up before he’s out of attempts, he’d be allowed to climb the tower with the other test takers. Love added that he’ll interfere and may even kill Bam, but he was fine with this.
Focus then returned to Prince and Kim, who were discussing the trustworthiness of their new teammates. Bouncing back to Bam and Love, the two began scouting each other’s strategies, trying to figure out how they’d approach. The episode ended with Love seemingly having the edge over Bam, as Kim seemingly plotted something behind Prince’s back.
In review
While Tower of God season 2 episode 3 is a very slow setup episode for The Trustworthy Room test, it’s nevertheless an engaging and exciting watch by nature of the rising tension throughout. This culminates into what seems to be the end of the setup stage, in turn leaving viewers wanting more with the installment ending just as the action begins.
The episode also does a great job of slowly but surely building up what will likely become the core group of Bam’s allies after the exam concludes. Miseng, Goseng, and Arkraptor all develop significantly in this episode, while Yeon, Ja, Nia, and Horyang are kept in the fold enough to cement their inclusion in this likely eventual team.
In summation
While Tower of God season 2 episode 3 is largely uneventful in and of itself due to the setup it needed to accomplish, the next episode seems to be action-packed. Likewise, fans can look forward to multiple fights, as the situation amongst the regular test-takers seems to be devolving into combat while Bam has already engaged Mule Love.
