The Trillion Game manga is a very important story in the career of manga author Riichiro Inagaki as he ended Dr. Stone and went on to focus on this series from December 2020 onwards. It is crucial because it shows his versatility as a manga writer, moving away from an experimental shonen series to a more slice-of-life story of how two young men became extremely wealthy.

While it has some of the histrionics associated with the medium, the Trillion Game manga is quite distinct from the other series people would most likely associate Inagaki with. That's not a bad thing, though: the series has a lot of positive qualities and Haru and Gaku's friendship is quite compelling, especially considering the way the story is presented.

Where to read

Unfortunately, for those who want to give the Trillion Game manga a chance, there is no official English translation for the series at the moment. While that could potentially change in the future now that there is a live action adaptation, there are only fan translations to read the manga, although those are not legal and therefore, not advisable.

The same situation applies to those who want to get their hands on physical copies of the series since it is currently not available in large stocks on Amazon. There are a couple of physical copies of the manga in French but those are quite limited, with accessibility also tied to the buyer being able to speak the language.

What to expect

Riichiro Inagaki's current series is set in the real world Japan, where two young men aspire to become billionaires...and they eventually do. The story takes place after they have managed to accomplish their goal and is narrated through one of the main characters, Gaku, who is the president of the Trillion Game company. Gaku spends the whole series narrating the events that led him and Haru, his partner in crime, to achieve this success.

One of the early selling points of the Trillion Game manga is the fact that Haru is nowhere to be seen in the present day and there is no explanation as to why he is not there. However, as Gaku narrates what happened when they were even younger, his stories include Haru standing up for him on several occasions, which makes the former also appreciate his friendship.

The series has a strong emphasis on the relationship between these two characters and how they connect with one another, which is very important because one of the first scenes talks about how they met.

There is also a lot of focus on how Haru is strong and confident while Gaku is weak-willed and insecure, which becomes one of the driving forces of the plot as they try to overcome several circumstances to achieve their dreams. The manga also presents several characters who were pivotal in the company's growth and success.

Final thoughts

The Trillion Game manga stirs away from a lot of classic tropes of the medium and focuses on what it takes to achieve a goal in the real world. However, at its core, it is a celebration of a friendship between two young men who wanted to achieve their dreams.
