Twilight Out of Focus episode 1, is to premiere on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 11:30 pm JST. Also known as Tasogare Out Focus, the anime adapts the renowned manga of the same name by Jyanome, which was serialized in Kodansha's digital BL magazine Honey Milk from June 10, 2018, to March 10, 2019. A second part, Twilight Out of Focus 3: Overlap, continued the story from May 10, 2019, to August 10, 2020.

The third part, Twilight Out of Focus 5: Long Take, began serialization on August 10, 2022, and is ongoing as of June 2024. Parts 1 and 2 were collected into a single tankōbon volume, while Part 3 has been collected into two tankōbon volumes. The series also has two spin-off mangas, titled Twilight Out of Focus 2: Afterimages in Slow Motion and Twilight Out of Focus 4: The Evening Monologues.

With its growing popularity, Kodansha USA announced the series' licensing for English digital and print publication in 2022. Episode 1 will premiere on various TV platforms in Japan: Tokyo MX on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 11:30 PM JST; BS Fuji on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 12:30 AM JST; Hokkaido TV on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at 2:35 AM JST; and AT-X on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 8:30 PM JST.

The anime will also be available for streaming on multiple online platforms including ABEMA, U-NEXT, Anime Hōdai, d Anime Store, DMM TV, Lemino, and more. Streaming services like Crunchyroll, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and others have obtained the distribution rights for the anime.

Note that the episode will be accessible on online platforms other than ABEMA, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai starting from Monday, July 8, 2024, at 12:00 AM JST. Brief synopsis, casting, and staff of the anime

Twilight Out of Focus is a BL series that follows roommates Mao Tsuchiya and Hisashi Ootomo, who make three promises at the start: Mao keeps Hisashi's homosexuality secret, Hisashi avoids romantic advances toward Mao, and they respect each other's "personal time".

But complications arise when the film club, where Mao is a member, considers casting Hisashi as the lead in their new boys' love-themed movie. Mao tries to dissuade Hisashi due to their first promise, but Hisashi surprisingly agrees. As they collaborate, Mao's feelings for Hisashi begin changing beyond friendship.

The anime boasts talented cast and crew members, with Toshinori Watanabe directing, Yoshimi Narita handling series composition, and Yoko Kikuchi managing character design under animation production by Studio Deen.

The series features Yoshitsugu Matsuoka in the lead role of Mao and Yuma Uchida as Hisashi, among other notable talents. Fans might recognize Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the voice behind Sword Art Online’s Kirito, Food War’s Souma, and Demon Slayer’s Inosuke, among numerous other noteworthy roles.

Yuma Uchida is equally renowned for voicing popular characters like Fruit Basket’s Kyo, Jujutsu Kaisen’s Fushiguro, Boruto’s Kawaki, and Uenoyama from Given, another BL.

The anime features music from renowned artists. Satoshi Hōno and Kaori Nakano handle the composition. Talented actor and singer Ikusaburo Yamazaki performs the opening song, Crank Up, while the ending theme, titled Unchain×Unchain, is by popular music duo, Amber's.
