Ui Ui likely has the most potential in Jujutsu Kaisen and his Cursed Technique is the key

Jujutsu Kaisen is known for a lot of things and one of them is its complex battle system, which is further emphasized by the potential of some characters, such as Ui Ui. Mei Mei's younger brother seemed like a footnote character for most of the series but gained a degree of prominence in the current Shinjuku arc of the manga.

It is because of his Cursed Technique, Spatial Transference, which makes him one of the individuals with most potential in the story (on paper). This might sound like hyperbole because Jujutsu Kaisen features several naturally gifted sorcerers such as Satoru Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, Kinji Hakari, or even Megumi Fushiguro.

But Ui Ui's character is quite particular because of the range his ability can have. It was shown in the Shinjuku arc flashbacks when he managed to swap souls to other bodies, speeding training sessions in the process, with that alone being a massive boost, although there are other elements.

Explaining why Ui Ui might have the biggest potential in Jujutsu Kaisen

One of the main reasons that Ui Ui has so much potential is that he can teleport to any single place he wants to go as long as he covers himself and other things with his blanket. For example, he could cover himself and his sister, Mei Mei, and teleport from Japan to Mexico without any problem whatsoever, giving him the possibility of dodging Domain Expansions, attacks like Satoru Gojo's Hollow Purple, and more.

There is also the fact that Ui Ui's Cursed Technique allows him to swap souls in other people's bodies, as seen in flashbacks of the Shinjuku arc in the manga where he made Yuji Itadori and Kusakabe switch to speed the former's training. This means that Ui Ui could learn from other people in a short amount of time, giving him more opportunities for growth.

Another important factor in his development is the fact he can make a Binding Vow that doesn't require his blanket to execute his Cursed Technique, thus giving him an easier time to teleport away when he needs to. While he is currently a very capable support, training in fighting skills and Reverse Cursed Technique could make him a force to be reckoned with.

The trajectory of Ui Ui's character in the series

Ui Ui and his sister Mei Mei are probably the two most controversial characters in Jujutsu Kaisen and that is because of a scene that took place during the Shibuya Incident arc. The two characters ran away from Shibuya and stayed at a hotel, with Mei Mei committing incest and child abuse with Ui Ui.

It was obviously a very wrong thing to do and sparked a lot of strong reactions within the fandom, with Mei Mei, a character that was a fan-favorite until that scene, becoming arguably the most hated individual in the series.

While Ui Ui also got a degree of hate, most fans agreed that he has been manipulated by his adult sister. Netizens also discussed that he is only a kid with no clear understanding of what is right and wrong, with his recent exploits in the battle against Ryomen Sukuna raising his popularity.

Final thoughts

Ui Ui certainly has the most potential when it comes to Jujutsu Kaisen characters based on his Cursed Technique alone. It has a long of range and could set up the character to become a Special Grade sorcerer without much problem.
