One Piece episode 1109 was released on June 23, 2024, and the Zoro vs S-Hawk fight in the episode has taken the fandom by surprise due to its amazing choreography and aesthetic animation.

The episode continued the quest of the Straw Hat Pirates as they looked for Vegapunk Stella. Zoro and Luffy freed Lucci and Kaku to offer their assistance in defeating the Serpahims S-Hawk and S-Bear. On the other hand, Captain Kidd reached Elbaf and challenged Shanks to a duel.

But the spotlight of the chapter was the Zoro vs S-Hawk fight that took place right at the start of the episode. The fan-favorite part of this fight was the visual of S-Hawk which Zoro saw when the Seraphim launched at him.

What is the Zoro vs S-Hawk fight in One Piece episode 1109?

One Piece chapter 1109 was titled A Tough Decision! An Unusual United Front! The episode commenced with a flashback from the previous episode where Zoro recognized the powers S-Hawk was using. These powers were reminiscent of the Dice-Dice devil fruit, a devil fruit in the possession of Mr. 1 of the Baroque Works, Daz Bones.

S-Hawk then jumped at the Straw Hats as Luffy and Zoro carried Lucci and Kaku alongside them, dodging the attacks of S-Hawk and S-Bear. Zoro vs S-Hawk then commenced as the Straw Hat fought the Seraphim while tossing Kaku in the air. Surprisingly, there were a lot of martial arts involved in their fight.

S-Hawk then activated the true powers of the Dice-Dice fruit and transformed his limbs into blades. Luffy tried to attack the Seraphim but it did no good. The Seraphim then regrouped as the episode shifted to the other side of the Egghead Island.

Reactions from the fandom on the S-Hawk vs Zoro showdown

The fandom was amazed, more specifically in regards to the visuals of S-Hawk. His demonic presence in the eyes of Roronoa Zoro reminded some fans of Gear 5 Luffy when he had his first fight against Rob Lucci in the Egghead arc. Luffy's image in that fight was also demonic but S-Hawk takes the cake as a much creepier and scary image.

Some fans were also amazed as to how Toei Animation keeps delivering such amazing fights in a weekly anime. One fan wanted to give credit to the person who did the key animation for this episode. The key animator for this episode was Vincent Chansard, a former MAPPA animator who joined One Piece at the start of 2024 and reportedly plans to stay here for a year.

"Bro looks more terrifying than Luffy during the Lucci sequence," a fan claimed
"This is a weekly anime btw. I wonder who did the animation for this?? They cooked," another fan said
"SERAPHIM HAD ME SHOOK. I was lowkey scared," another one claimed

On the other hand, some fans decided to mock their rival fandom. As Zoro shared a key moment in this chapter by fighting toe-to-toe against one of the strongest Seraphims, fans claimed that Vinsmoke Sanji could never do such a thing.

A fan even wondered about the true potential of the real Mihawk, on which the S-Hawk Seraphim model is based. S-Hawk was a demon in the episode as claimed by most fans and they showed their excitement over witnessing more visuals of the Seraphim in the future.

"Sanji could never," a fan claimed
"If s hawk is doing this i cant imagine the real mihawk," another fan said
"Holy sh*t they made S-Hawk look like a f*cking demon," another one claimed

Final thoughts

The episode was all about S-Hawk, even though his involvement in the source material, the manga series, is minimal. Fans can appreciate Vincent Chansard for this as the animator's choice to give S-Hawk this spotlight paid off.

Other than this episode, Vincent Chansard was also involved in some other fan-favorite episodes, one of which was the King vs Zoro episode where the swordsman became the King of Hell.
