Mayuri Kurotsuchi might be the most sinister character from Bleach even though he was a part of the protagonist's side. His battle in the Thousand Year Blood War Arc against Pernida was a perfect display of how much the scientist could adapt against any villain. However, his part might not be filled with good memories, especially from his battle against Uryu Ishida.

During the Soul Society Arc, Ichigo and his allies infiltrated the Soul Society to prevent Rukia's execution. Uryu happened to face the Mayuri and was seconds away from killing the Soul Reaper with his Letzt Stil until Mayuri escaped. While this feat might look like a fluke, it was something neither Szayelaporro Granz nor Pernida could achieve through their full powers.

Bleach: Exploring Uryu's feat against Mayuri that Granz and Pernida could never achieve

During the Soul Society Arc, Ichigo and his friends infiltrated the Soul Society to save Rukia, who was being executed for sharing her Soul Reaper powers with the protagonist. After reaching the Soul Society everyone was scared and faced different Soul Reapers. Uryu and Orihime crossed paths with Mayuri Kurotsuchi, the mad scientist.

After a few minutes of the battle, Uryu realized that Orihime could be captured and used as a test subject by the mad scientist. So, he asked her to leave and faced the Soul Reaper alone. Uryu was also disgusted by how Mayuri treated his daughter, Nemu, and swore on his pride as a Quincy to take him down.

Uryu activated the final Quincy form, the Letzt Stil, as a last-minute resort. While this form could rob Uryu of his Quincy, he had to take the risk to defeat his enemy. However, Mayuri was also not holding back and activated his Bankai: Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo. As Uryu unleashed his Letzt Stil arrow pointed at Mayuri, the Soul Reaper tried blocking it with his Bankai.

While Mayuri's Bankai was destroyed during this process, he was also stabbed and a big part of his abdomen was destroyed, bringing him close to death. Avoiding his demise, Mayuri stabbed himself with his own Zanpakuto and transformed into a liquid, making a hard escape from death.

Watching this fight after Bleach Thousand Year Blood Year might make fans realize how strong Ishida was during the Soul Society Arc, given how no other enemy could even bring the Soul Reaper close to his death.

During the Hueco Mundo Arc, Mayuri returned to battle against Espada #8, Szayelaporro Granz. Moreover, Granz was also a scientist, just like Mayuri, so the fight was a clash of knowledge. While the Soul Reaper was overpowered by Granz on and off, Mayuri's medical knowledge betrayed him. This led to the Soul Reaper administrating the Superhuman Drug to the Espada.

The drug delayed Espada's senses to the point that every second passed like a hundred years, confirming Espada's death. Mayuri was even more overpowered during the Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Arc against Pernida Parnkgjas. Pernida, the Soul King's left arm, was expected to win and even overpowered Mayuri to the point of defeat.

However, Mayuri's thirst for knowledge never quenched and he kept fighting. After Nemu was sacrificed in battle, Mayuri let Pernida swallow her remains, retrieved Nemu's brain, and saw Penida succumb to his own mistake (as Nemu's body forced Pernida's body to go into rapid cell division). So, Ishida's feat in Bleach might be something other villains could only dream of achieving.

Final Thoughts

There is no doubt that Mayuri's fight against Ishida was something the Soul Reaper would never forget. After this fight, Mayuri modified his Bankai and used every tactic to win a battle. This might be why he is still considered one of the strongest Bleach characters.
