Uzumaki (Spiral into Horror) is a horror-psychological anime that is also one of the most anticipated anime of the Fall 2024 Anime Season. The anime adaptation was announced by Studio Drive (Konosuba season 3) and Studio Akatsuki also joined the production soon after.
However, things changed when the first episode aired because the parent studio, Studio Drive, was replaced by Studio Fugaku. The anime's production team announced that the series will be a 4-part one consisting of only four episodes (which is different than most TV series that are either 12 episodes, a single cour, or 24 episodes, two cour).
How many episodes will Uzumaki have?
The anime released its first episode on September 29, 2024, on the English TV channel Adult Swim. The series has aired three episodes so far, and the latest episode (also the last installment) is set to be released on October 20, 2024.
The complete release date schedule for Uzumaki, according to JST (Japanese Standard Time), BST (British Standard Time), and IST (Indian Standard Time) are as follows:
The above-mentioned schedule doesn't take into account the 'possible' production issues, even though there is only one episode left to air. So, the fandom can expect the last episode to be delayed based on production issues or any other related issue that the anime's production team hasn't reported yet, as of this article's publication.
Where to watch Uzumaki
Unlike the majority of the seasonal anime series that air on Crunchyroll, Uzumaki is different as it is produced by an English Studio (Production I.G. USA). So, its first release is one on the American Television channel Adult Swim.
For the worldwide audience, the series can be streamed on the subscription platform HBO Max a day after its release on Adult Swim, making it unavailable in most parts of the world. Unfortunately, the series can't be streamed on worldwide-available streaming sites like Crunchyroll, Netflix, and the related.
About Uzumaki anime
The anime series tells the tale of Kirie Goshima, the female protagonist, who started noticing strange 'happenings' inside her home village, the Kurouzu village. All of these happenings were related to the spiral shape that kept attracting people towards it. However, it was not until the female protagonist was affected by the spiral curse that she noticed how dangerous it could be.
The first episode saw Kirie's boyfriend, Shuichi Saitou, recommending her leave the village due to his father's lethal attraction towards the spiral. The last part of the episode saw the demise of Shuichi's father due to the spiral curse. Moreover, Kirie's best friend, Azami, was also affected by the same curse and died after getting engulfed in the spiral.
The second episode saw Kirie experience the spiral curse first-hand as her hair started transforming into a spiral. The curse also affected the other students of Kirie's class with Katayama becoming a snail and one of the female protagonist's classmates dying at the hands of her hair that she got after witnessing Kirie's spiral hair.
The third episode saw the mental breakdown of Shuichi's mother who was continuously being pestered by her husband. Shuichi's mother eventually reached her end and stabbed her ear, which led to her demise. Kurouzu village was also reaching its last stage as a heavy storm engulfed the village, preventing its residents from escaping.
