Uzumaki episode 1 is scheduled to release on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:30 pm JST, and will be available for viewing on Adult Swim. This highly anticipated mini-series, consisting of just four episodes, has faced multiple delays, making its release a source excitement for fans of Junji Ito’s manga. The timing is such that it is releasing just in time for the spooky season.

Uzumaki is an adaptation of one of the most popular works by horror mangaka Junji Ito. The story revolves around spirals, the symbol taking the form of an ancient, cosmic horror that haunts the town of Kurouzu-cho.

The manga was originally serialized in Shogakukan's weekly seinen manga magazine, Big Comic Spirits, from January 19, 1998, to August 30, 1999. Uzumaki has also received a film adaptation directed by Higuchinsky in 2000.

Where to watch Uzumaki episode 1

As already stated, Uzuamki episode 1 will be available to stream first on Adult Swim, after which it will be available on HBO Max.

On the other hand, the English-subtitled version will be available on HBO Max first. Moreover, the episode will be repeated on Adult Swim in both languages on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

What to expect from Uzumaki episode 1?

The anime follows high school student Kirie Goshima, whose life takes a dramatic turn when unsettling events begin to occur in her hometown of Kurouzu-cho. It seems that these strange events are somehow connected to spirals.

Kirie's partner, Shuichi Saito, is the only one who appears to be aware of the danger posed by these spirals. He is deeply wary of them and is determined to leave the town to escape their influence. The core of the story focuses on whether Kirie and Shuichi can successfully flee from the spiral-afflicted town or if they will stay and uncover the secrets that lie within it.

Thus, in Uzumaki episode 1, viewers can expect to be introduced to the main characters, Kirie and Shuichi, along with their respective family members. The animation style closely follows the distinctive art style of Junji Ito.

This means that viewers can expect the visuals to be just as eerie and terrifying as the source material, if not more so, thanks to the embellishments and enhancements that animation allows.

Uzumaki is being directed by Hiroshi Nagahama, while Aki Itami is working on the script, and Hiroko Umezaki on color design.

The Japanese cast will feature Uki Satake as Kirie Goshima, Furukawa as Kirie's father, Shinichiro Miki as Shuichi Saito, Mika Doi as Yukie Saito, Takashi Matsuyama as Shuichi's father, Ami Fukushima as Shiho, Katsutoshi Matsuzaki as Katayama, Mariya Ise as Azami Kurotani, Koichi Tochika as Yokota, Tatsumaru Tachibana as Tsumura Toshio, and Wataru Hatano as Okada.

The anime will also feature Anna Nagase, Gen Sato, Kosuke Okamoto, and Shunsuke Takeuchi in minor roles.
