Uzumaki episode 3: The Curse of the Mosquitoes
Uzumaki episode 3 commenced with Kirie being admitted to the local hospital of the village after the incident where Sekino fought with her. While she was admitted, several pregnant women were admitted to the hospital at the same time. All of these women were bitten by mosquitoes. Kirie was asked to share a room with her pregnant cousin Keiko.
During nighttime, Kirie heard the news of some people marching. When she looked out of her room, she witnessed the pregnant women entering the rooms of other patients and sucking their blood to replenish their nutrients. After Kirie tried teaching one of these women, she was attacked by her. This was followed by everyone ganging up on her.
However, she was saved by another person who was exiting his room. After these women took him down, they again tried to suck Kirie's blood. However, she used mosquito spray on them, which sent them away at once. In the morning, when the female protagonist tried reporting to the hospital about the incident from the previous night, no one believed her.
Uzumaki episode 3: The Birth of Strange Babies
After a few days, the babies of all the women were born and transferred to a single room. Kirie was forced to eat mushrooms, but she didn't like them because they tasted like blood. As she was about to leave the hospital, Kirie saw the newborn babies sprout mushrooms from their bellies.
She then rushed to the delivery room where Keiko's baby was being delivered. The doctor informed her about the newborns who kept regrowing their placenta as mushrooms.
They then saw Keiko's belly stitched up after the delivery as she was asking for blood. The doctor pinned down Kirie to help Keiko get her blood, but Kirie fell down, and Keiko started sucking the blood of the doctor. After this fiasco, Kirie left the hospital. During this time, Shuichi's paranoid mother also died.
Uzumaki episode 3: The storm on Kurouzu village
After Kirie returned home, she saw her father obsessed with spirals, just like Shuichi's late father. Kirie's father started forging cutlery with spiral designs, and Shuichi, who was now visiting them quite often, was freaked out by them.
One day, while Kirie's father was sitting before a kiln, Shuichi approached him because the male protagonist heard someone calling his name out of the kiln. He then broke the kiln, which released the souls of Shuichi's parents, and these took over the village.
The next day, a terrible storm approached the village, and everyone had to take refuge wherever they could. After the storm calmed, everyone took refuge in broken huts, just like Kirie's family. However, their neighbor was peeping on them through wall holes.
One day, Kirie's family heard some news about a woman and rushed towards her, only to find the woman's son dead. Soon, another person started peeping on Kirie. He became infested with the spiral curse, becoming a monster. He then tried attacking Kirie but was blown away by the wind. At the end of Uzumaki episode 3, Yamaguchi jumped out of his grave and tried attacking Kirie.
Final thoughts
Although the episode was animated by the same animation studio as episode 2, Uzumaki episode 3 was comparatively better. However, several things were wrong with the episode, the spotlight of which was the animation quality, which could be a recurring issue in the future, too. However, hopes are high for the final episode of the series.
