Uzumaki episode 3 recap

In the previous episode, Kirie was admitted to Kurouzu Hospital, where she shared a room with her pregnant cousin, Keiko. Several other pregnant women were also hospitalized, all of whom had been bitten by mosquitoes.

That night, Kirie witnessed the pregnant women gathering and entering the rooms of other patients, where they drilled into their bodies and drained their blood. When they noticed Kirie watching, they attempted to attack her, but she managed to defend herself using mosquito spray left by Shuichi.

When Kirie reported the bizarre incident, no one took her seriously. Days later, she discovered the newborns communicating with each other and noticed a certain mushroom growing from their bellies. This mushroom was being served to patients, who became obsessed with it.

Kirie later discovered that these mushrooms were actually the regenerated placentas of the newborns, who wanted to return to their mothers. The doctor was performing operations on the new mothers to facilitate this reunion.

The doctor tried to restrain Kirie to feed her blood to the mothers, but Keiko ultimately attacked the doctor and drank his blood. During this time, Shuichi's paranoid mother tried to destroy the spiral in her ear, resulting in her death.

Upon returning home, Kirie found her father fixated on creating spiral-patterned cutlery with mud from Dragonfly Pond. One night, Shuichi heard voices coming from Kirie’s father’s kiln and broke it open, releasing the souls of his parents and others.

The episode showed a typhoon, whose eye hovered over Kirie’s house, calling her name. Shuichi took Kirie away, explaining that the typhoon had become obsessed with her. The typhoon ultimately descended into Dragonfly Pond.

After the devastation caused by the typhoon, Kirie's family and Shuichi sought refuge in an old row house, where a neighboring tenant also became infatuated with Kirie. Subsequently, he started sprouting spiral-shaped thorns all over his body. He broke through the wall and went after Kirie.

Kirie left the house, only to come face to face with Mitsuru's corpse, which was bouncing around. As his body fell apart, they discovered that a suspension spring was stuck inside him.

What to expect from Uzumaki episode 4 (speculative)

In Uzumaki episode 4, viewers will see the spiral curse take shape. Given the changes made by the show's creators so far, it will be interesting to see how they interpret the final portion of Junji Ito's masterpiece.

There are still several chapters that need to be adapted. If the pacing is not right, the ending may not have the same impact as the manga did on its readers.
