Season 2 episode 20 recap
Vinland Saga season 2 episode 20 began with Fox remembering how he got to this point in his life as he watched Badger fight off a soldier with just one hand. Just as it seemed Badger was about to die, Snake saved his life and ordered his men to retreat. This caused Ketil’s men to retreat as well, creating a situation in which Ketil was distracted and attacked by one of Canute’s men.
The episode then showed Thorgil creeping up on Canute after Wulf left the latter’s side. Unfortunately, Thorgil was unable to kill him before Wulf got back and stabbed a sword through the former's wrist, forcing him to retreat unsuccessfully. Surprisingly, Olmar was nowhere to be seen in this section of the episode despite being a part of Thorgil’s plan.
Episode 20 then shifted perspectives to Thorfinn, Einar, Leif, Bug-Eyes, and Arnheid, where Arnheid said her piece to Einar and Thorfinn before dying. At that moment, Snake arrived with an injured Ketil, sending Einar into a frenzy which Thorfinn was thankfully able to pull him out of. After burying Arnheid, the episode ended with Thorfinn heading to go speak with Canute, promising he’ll be alright no matter what happens.
What to expect (speculative)
In one way or another, Vinland Saga season 2 episode 21 will open up with a focus on Canute considering the events of the previous episode. Whether it be a contemporary focus on his recovering from Thorgil’s attack, speaking with Thorfinn in the present, or a flashback of his past with Thorfinn, Canute will certainly be the opening star of the episode.
If Vinland Saga season 2 episode 21 doesn’t open with Thorfinn and Canute beginning their conversation, fans can expect it to take up a good amount of remaining runtime once it begins. In between, fans can expect a focus on Thorgil, Ketil, Snake, and Olmar, as well as possibly a brief focus on Leif Ericson and his crew getting their boat ready for departure at Thorfinn’s return.
