Was Quanxi killed by Makima in Chainsaw Man? Explained

Chainsaw Man's Quanxi needed little time to establish herself as one of the series' cooler characters. Quanxi comes from China, is a Hybrid who merged with the Bow Devil, and is also known as "The First Devil Hunter." She also served as an antagonist in the International Assassins Arc and the Control Devil Arc.

However, following that, Makima killed her in quite a cruel manner. This brought grief to the fandom, which, despite her limited screen time so far, began to adore her. That being said, she did return to the series later, once more showcasing her deadly skill and why she was so feared all around.

Why Makima killed Quanxi, explained

Makima killed Quanxi during the International Assassins Arc. The incident takes place when Quanxi forms an alliance with Denji to take down Santa Claus. She wasn't happy that she had lost Long and Pingtsi. Partnering up, the pair manage to kill Santa Claus, after which Quanxi swiftly decapitates Denji.

Such a move signaled the end of her deal with him. Soon, Hirofumi and Kishibe approach her but start to blindfold themselves. From behind, Makima emerges, causing Quanxi to immediately surrender. However, the former, as cruel as she is, spares no one, going on to decapitate both Quanxi and her two surviving friends.

She does so likely because she knows how dangerous Quanxi is. Moreover, with Santa Claus taken down and then Quanxi, the threat to Makima's plan to succeed reduces drastically.

Quanxi's return to Chainsaw Man and presence after

For those wondering, Quanxi does make a return almost immediately, in the next arc, i.e., the Control Devil Arc. Makima revived and brainwashed Quanxi offscreen for her own needs, despite the latter's unceremonious "death." She is recalled as part of Makima's newly-formed Special Division 5, a Weapon Hybrids team formed to battle the fully-powered Chainsaw Man.

Quanxi is soon freed of Makima's control following the latter's death, reverting to her original personality. She later returns to the series once more during the Academy Saga, this time as part of Special Division 7. She seeks to reclaim possession of her girlfriends' corpses from the organization's custody.

She is then seen in action, preventing the Weapons from causing a massacre at the plaza before rescuing Denji, Nayuta, and Mifune from Barem and his Pseudo-Chainsaw Devil army. In the present, Quanxi was last seen at the Tokyo Devil Detention Center, allowing Denji and co. to escape.
