Oshi no Ko fans are already vocal about boycotting Aka Akasaka's new manga, set to launch in Spring 2025. Following the conclusion of Oshi no Ko, Akasaka announced that he would be teaming up with the artistic collective Ajichika, who did most of the art for Record of Ragnarok, to draw his new manga series.

However, things quickly took a turn for the worse as fans expressed their dissatisfaction with Akasaka's future manga after Oshi no Ko and declared a boycott against his works. This pre-release boycott reflects frustration along with a lack of confidence in the mangaka to cast a shadow on the succeeding series even before its release.

Oshi no Ko fans call for boycott of Aka Akasaka's next manga

As Oshi no Ko approaches its final chapters with Chapter 166, fans have raised a collective outcry about the ending, leading to a widespread call for boycotting creator Aka Akasaka's future manga.

Displeasure began when recent chapters revealed Aqua's tragic attempt to protect Ruby by fatally taking his own life alongside the main antagonist, Hikaru.

Even though this was expected to be the end of the story arc of Aqua, fans believe that the event has disregarded many important character and theme-related arcs, leaving several plot points unresolved. Ruby's emotional behavior and how it altered due to the climax only added fuel to fans' anger.

The main concern revolves around the fact that Akasaka managed the story's climax very poorly. Many fans feel like Aqua's plan, which ended up with his death and all the despair, ignored the emotional buildup and things Oshi no Ko initially developed into. It was not impactful enough to satisfy fans, making them feel disconnected from characters they used to find relatable and emotionally engaging.

"There's no way they can execute Aqua's revenge plan and find his dad and still resolve the plot in two chapters," one fan said.
"Bad... Veryyyy bad especially for kana fans," another fan described the ending.
"As a Kanna Chad, I am devastated. I think it'd take a small miracle to make the ending satisfying at this rate," one person stated.
"Uhhh not the worst but if you're looking for a happy ending for the cast...you're not gonna get it," a fan defended.
"I'm very sad for Ruby, it really didn't have to end like this," another fan explained.

In addition, viewers are criticizing the current popular manga trend, suggesting that many authors are rushing their conclusions or failing to adequately resolve their manga. With Oshi no Ko's ending, most readers are afraid of Akasaka's storytelling in any of his next works, fearing a similar senseless and meaningless ending.

These reactions have further stirred fans of the manga to boycott Akasaka's new manga work with the artist group Ajichika even before it came out.

Final thoughts

Fans are boycotting Aka Akasaka's upcoming manga mainly due to the unsatisfactory conclusion of Oshi no Ko. The protests have worsened since the finale, which many believe showed contempt for the critical development of characters, particularly with Aqua's sudden death and Ruby's unread grief.

Many feel that Akasaka rushed the story to its end, sacrificing the emotional depth that initially captured readers. The boycott reflects the audience's lost confidence in Akasaka's ability to deliver fulfilling narratives, casting a shadow over future collaboration with Ajichika long before the manga's official launch.
