In the One Piece world, Devil Fruits are items that give their users permanent superhuman powers in exchange for their ability to swim. Particularly skilled users can achieve Devil Fruit Awakening, a stage that unleashes the fruit's full potential, providing even greater and more effective powers.
Regardless of the mastery level of their users, One Piece Devil Fruits subsume a wide variety of peculiar abilities, each one with its own strengths and weaknesses. Despite their unique powers, it can be said that, within the context of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece story, most Devil Fruits grant relatively ordinary powers.
One Piece Devil Fruits allow their users to control the nature elements, transform into animals, alter their bodies, manipulate the environment, and generate substances. While these abilities are amazing, they aren't unheard of or unprecedented in fictional stories. However, certain Devil Fruits go beyond the concept of superhuman, giving free rein to Oda's imagination to display some of the strangest abilities ever seen.
The most bizarre One Piece Devil Fruits, listed from most ordinary to weirdest
15) Spin-Spin Fruit
The Spin-Spin Fruit was eaten by Buffalo, a subordinate of Donquixote Doflamingo. This Devil Fruit allows the user to turn any part of their body into a propeller that spins at high speed, enabling them to fly over long distances.
As a Rotating Human, the user of the Spin-Spin Fruit can also use the centripetal force generated by the rotation to throw objects and people, as well as create windstorms. Although relatively effective, the result is quite grotesque to behold.
14) Pocket-Pocket Fruit
With the Pocket-Pocket Fruit, it’s possible to store any object inside pockets located on the user’s body. The storage capacity is virtually limitless, as the pockets can hold anything, regardless of its size or weight. If the object stored inside is larger than the pocket, its size will magically adjust.
In the One Piece story, the Pocket-Pocket Fruit was eaten by Blamenco, a member of the Whitebeard Pirates. Blamenco demonstrated this Devil Fruit’s absurd powers by storing a gigantic hammer—much larger than his own body—within himself and then pulling it out.
13) Bubble-Bubble Fruit
The Bubble-Bubble Fruit allows the user to create and control soap and bubbles at will. These substances will not only clean away dirt but power as well. In fact, the bubbles can sap the energy of anyone they touch. The target will be left powerless and with a shrunken body, though cleaned to the point of shine. The user can also concentrate foam and bubbles around their body.
However, all it takes to counter the Bubble-Bubble Fruit is water and a gust of wind. Water can instantly wash away the soap, while the wind is more than enough to blow away the bubbles. Kalifa, a former CP9 agent who is now part of CP0, ate the Bubble-Bubble Fruit and used it in her battles against Sanji and Nami during the Enies Lobby Arc.
12) Horm-Horm Fruit
Eaten by Emporio Ivankov, the commander of the Revolutionary Army’s Grand Line group, the Horm-Horm Fruit allows the user to create special hormones that can be injected into the target’s body. These hormones will cause the recipient’s body to undergo a wide variety of changes, such as altering their skin pigmentation, emotional state, gender, body temperature, and more.
To inject the hormones, the user will shape their fingers into syringes. As demonstrated by Ivankov, the Horm-Horm Fruit can be used to effectively remodel a human, including the user themselves. In addition to genetically altering Luffy’s body to counter Magellan’s poison before and replenish the former’s stamina later, Ivankov also used the Horm-Horm Fruit to enlarge his head, which will never be unfunny.
11) Door-Door Fruit
The Door-Door Fruit was eaten by Blueno, a former CP9 agent who is now part of CP0. It can be used to open doors on any surface, no matter how hard or thick it may be. By doing so, the user can reach theoretically inaccessible places and set up sneak attacks.
It’s even possible to open doors through the air, which enables the user to access a special pocket dimension that exists within the air itself. Although seemingly perfect for an assassin, the Door-Door Fruit holds some hilarious abilities. In fact, the user can use this Devil Fruit power on human targets to turn their faces into a revolving door.
This causes the target’s face to spin at high speed, making them confused and dizzy, but without actually harming them. Luffy’s ridiculous face after Blueno hit him with the Door-Door Fruit speaks for itself, definitely earning this item a place among the weirdest One Piece Devil Fruits.
10) Hobby-Hobby Fruit
Toys are children’s most genuine hobby, but One Piece Devil Fruits can turn even such harmless fun into a nightmarish ordeal. The Hobby-Hobby Fruit enables the user to turn living people into toys upon touching them. While seemingly funny, this ability is appalling, as the memories of the transformed people’s existence are concurrently erased from everyone else’s minds.
A playful attitude keeps people young, and this is all the more true from the Hobby-Hobby Fruit’s users. Over and above transforming other individuals into toys, this Devil Fruit also renders its users eternally young. A testament to this, the current user of the Hobby-Hobby Fruit, a Donquixote Pirates member named Sugar, looks like a ten-year-old child, despite being a 22-year-old woman.
9) Garb-Garb Fruit
The Garb-Garb Fruit was eaten by Kinemon, one of the Red Scabbards. One of the very few One Piece Devil Fruits to be completely useless in direct combat, this item nonetheless grants the samurai the quite unique power to generate clothing out of stones and leaves.
This ability can be very useful to provide disguises and also come in handy whenever someone needs specific garments. However, the apparel’s quality and style will depend on the user’s imagination and knowledge.
During the Wano Arc, Kinemon used the Garb-Garb Fruit to disguise the many members of the alliance that was about to storm Onigashima, dressing them up like the Beasts Pirates. Upon passing through an arched gate with a leaf-shaped banner situated at the top, people would have their clothes instantly changed, which is a surreal process to begin with.
8) Art-Art Fruit
The Art-Art Fruit allows its users to turn people and objects into abstract art. Targets subjected to the powers of the Art-Art Fruit will be distorted, losing their regular characteristics to become a decorative, two-dimensional piece of art until the user is incapacitated.
Of all the One Piece Devil Fruits, the Art-Art Fruit is definitely one of the strangest. It was eaten by Giolla, a member of the Donquixote Pirates. In the series, she used it against Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Momonosuke. Funnily enough, Giolla turned them into artworks based on famous real-life pieces of art, such as Pablo Picasso’s cubist art and Edvard Munch’s The Scream.
7) Munch-Munch Fruit
Eaten by Wapol, the Munch-Munch Fruit allows the user to stretch open their jaws to eat and reconfigure anything, even their own body. With the unreal powers of this Devil Fruit, anything can be bitten, eaten, and digested, including living beings, inanimate objects, and other things that would normally be impossible to consume.
The eaten items can be reconfigured and regurgitated to create something new, as well as incorporated into the user’s body. The user can even devour people and combine them with themselves. Admittedly, the Munch-Munch Fruit's abilities are weird even by the standards of One Piece Devil Fruits.
6) Hollow-Hollow Fruit
The Hollow-Hollow Fruit allows the user to conjure and control special ghosts that appear as sheet-like spirits with round black eyes and huge lips. Intangible and seemingly immune to physical attacks, these ghosts can fly and go through walls. The user of this Devil Fruit, a girl named Perona, can access a variety of abilities depending on the type of ghost she creates.
In particular, Perona’s Negative Hollows can take away the will of anyone they touch, making them feel extremely negative about themselves. The only known natural counter to this effect is, unironically, to be a very insecure and pessimistic person to begin with, much like Usopp.
Ghosts are ethereal, but with the Hollow-Hollow Fruit it’s possible to create Special Hollows, i.e., particular phantoms that can somehow inflict physical damage on their targets. Additionally, the Hollow-Hollow Fruit enables the user to separate their consciousness from their body and project it into a giant phantom that can travel anywhere, float freely, shapeshift, and go through solid objects.
5) Berry-Berry Fruit
The Berry-Berry Fruit allows the user to transform their body parts into a multitude of berry-like orbs in order to nullify blunt force attacks. Granted, the user will remain vulnerable to cutting and piercing techniques.
Once transformed into cannonball-like spheres, the detached body parts can bounce around and even float in mid-air for an unintentionally hilarious result. In the series, the Berry-Berry Fruit is owned by Very Good, a Marine officer.
4) Egg-Egg Fruit
Normally, the most bizarre One Piece Devil Fruits fall under the Paramecia category, but the Egg-Egg Fruit is absolutely weird despite being a Zoan type. Compared to the others of its class, the Egg-Egg Fruit is absolutely unique, as it doesn’t let the user transform into an animal and human-animal hybrid at will.
The user of the Egg-Egg Fruit will only be able to transform after receiving a hit powerful enough to bring them to the brink of death. This was well demonstrated by the item’s canon user, the veteran Big Mom Pirates officer Baron Tamago. Due to the Egg-Egg Fruit’s effect, Tamago’s body composition is that of an egg.
If cracked open, the yolk will generate a stronger body with evident chicken-like features. When this second form, called “Viscount Hyoko,” is defeated, the user will evolve again, becoming “Count Niwatori,” a full-grown rooster. If this form gets destroyed as well, the user won’t succumb but will revert back to the initial form.
This seemingly prevents the user of the Egg-Egg Fruit from dying in battle. However, the user can be attacked and killed during the evolution process, as they will be completely defenseless at that moment.
3) Wring-Wring Fruit
Eaten by Charlotte Smoothie, one of the Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates, the Wring-Wring Fruit grants the ability to squeeze liquid from both living creatures and inanimate objects upon physical contact with them. Despite being wringed and twisted, the targets of the squeeze won’t be physically harmed.
Granted, they will be severely dehydrated, to the point of becoming crumpled husks. The extracted liquids become a delicious juice that can be drunk, with their taste being good no matter what they were extracted from. In fact, the user can make a delightful juice even from rocks or living animals.
Smoothie typically uses this Devil Fruit power to put on a show during Big Mom’s parties. After wringing out rare objects, animals, or people as if they were wet towels, she serves their juices as cocktails to the guests.
It should be noted that the Wring-Wring Fruit is not only one of the strangest One Piece Devil Fruits but a quite useful asset in combat as well. Apart from creating unique-flavored drinks, in fact, it also allows the user to absorb the extracted liquids to empower themselves and their weapons.
2) Wash-Wash Fruit
The Wash-Wash Fruit was eaten by Tsuru, a now 76-year-old Vice Admiral who, in her prime, was one of the most powerful Marine officers ever. As demonstrated by Tsuru during the Marineford Arc, this Devil Fruit allows the user to wash and hang people out to dry as if they were clothes.
The targets of the Wash-Wash Fruit are turned into laundry, which reduces them to impotence. As per One Piece author Eiichiro Oda’s own words, this Devil Fruit can remove a bit of evil from the hearts of its targets. This makes it a good ability to use against pirates, outlaws, and vicious people in general.
The sight of Tsuru using this bizarre power to capture pirates and hang them to dry like clothes was nothing short of hilarious, especially considering that this surreal scene took place amidst the Paramount War. Without any doubt, this item should be counted among the weirdest One Piece Devil Fruits.
1) Jacket-Jacket Fruit
The Jacket-Jacket Fruit allows the user to transform into a jacket of human skin that others can wear. The wearer of the jacket becomes controlled by the jacket itself, thus enabling the Jacket-Jacket Fruit user to gain access to the former’s powers, techniques, and physical abilities at will.
It remains unclear if the wearer can choose to be taken over by the Devil Fruit user or if they get no choice in the matter. Regardless of the size difference between the wearer and the user, the latter will turn into a custom-fit jacket, with their skin conforming to the host. The user will also retain the ability to speak, taking over the wearer completely.
In One Piece, Kelly Funk uses this Devil Fruit to become a jacket. He has his absent-minded brother Bobby wear him in order to use his tough physique and brute strength. It would be interesting to see what would happen if a Jacket-Jacket Fruit user managed to wrap around a really powerful fighter, even though a strong Haki user would probably be able to repel the control with their Haki.
In any case, the idea of a jacket made of human skin is just disturbing, if not downright creepy. There are several bizarre One Piece Devil Fruits, but the Jacket-Jacket Fruit is definitely the weirdest of them all.
