The Chainsaw Man manga has introduced numerous overpowered and mysterious characters like Kishibe, Quanxi, and the Gun Devil. While all their powers and roles were completely revealed and explored in the manga, the Darkness Devil remains the most mysterious character introduced in the story.

The limited screen time of the Darkness Devil has left many fans wondering, "What does the Darkness Devil do?" This devil was used to establish the overall power level of the manga and reveal that the main protagonist and Makima were not overpowered compared to the actual pinnacle of power present in the series.

The Darkness Devil plays no major part in the story and simply acts as a overpowered minor antagonist that the Public Safety Department faced, resulting in the loss of many personnel. However, it is possible that the Darkness Devil will make another appearance in Chainsaw Man manga Part 2.

The Darkness Devil was one of the earliest overpowered devils introduced in Part 1 of the manga. The actual nature, powers, alignment, and motives of the Darkness Devil have continued to remain a mystery, and many fans agree that he was only introduced as a plot device to establish the overall power levels of truly ancient devils while also revealing the existence of the Primal Fear Devils.

The Darkness Devil played no major role in the story and was introduced as a overpowered force that couldn't be defeated by the characters. The Darkness Devil is simply the manifestation of humanity’s fear of darkness.

Darkness, being one of the primal fears innately present in every human being, makes the Darkness Devil one of the strongest devils ever introduced in the series.

While the Darkness Devil’s screen time only lasted a few panels, it was able to mutilate and eliminate numerous members of the Public Safety Department, including Makima.

Given that Part 2 of the manga has established the Death Devil as the main antagonist and death is also one of humanity's primal fears, it is possible that other primal fears will also appear alongside Darkness Devil.

The Darkness Devil is one of the oldest devils in existence and possesses every standard devil power, including contract creation, regeneration, and immortality. While other devils' immortality refers to a continuous cycle of death and rebirth, the Darkness Devil’s immortality is nearly perfect, as the Falling Devil herself mentioned that humanity has no method of harming a primal fear.

The Darkness Devil’s other powers include superhuman strength and speed, with one prime example being the Darkness Devil’s ability to speed blitz Quanxi, who was established as the fastest entity in the Chainsaw Man series.

This devil can also manipulate a peculiar psychic force similar to what Makima uses for combat. Above all this, the Darkness Devil also has the power to manifest and mold darkness into a blade, which can be controlled freely and used as an extra extension of himself.

This devil's power is so immense that consuming even a minuscule portion of its flesh elevated Santa Claus's power to an entirely different plane, granting abilities similar to those of the Darkness Devil itself.
