Among the many skills Bell Cranel mastered throughout his career as an adventurer in Danmachi, Liaris Freese remains a unique one, due to its interesting nature. The passive skill adds complexity to Bell's character and becomes the ultimate trump card for him to evade Goddess Freya's charm in the Freya Familia arc.

According to the narrative of Danmachi, Bell Cranel acquired the Liaris Freese skill after he fell in love with Ais Wallenstein, who saved him from a ravaging minotaur in the dungeon. It's a passive skill that influences fast growth for Bell, as long as he is in love with Ais. Moreover, the skill's strength and effects correspond to Bell's feelings for Ais, and as a side effect, it makes him immune to charms, including that of Freya's.

Exploring Liaris Freese and why it's Bell Cranel's trump card in Danmachi

In the ongoing Danmachi season 5, Goddess Freya mentioned that she wanted to weaken Bell Cranel's Liaris Freese (often translated to Realis Phrase) skill to ensure her victory. However, the narrative hasn't properly explained what the skill is all about and why it's hindering Freya from charming Bell.

The confusion surrounding the skill's nature may have prompted some fans to wonder, "What is Liaris Freese in Danmachi?" They would like to know that Fujino Omori, the original author behind the work, has already explained the skill's real nature in his light novel series.

According to the light novels, Liaris Freese, or Realis Phrase, is a passive skill that increases Bell Cranel's growth as an adventurer. In other words, he can level up quicker than most adventurers. Bell passively acquired this skill following his encounter with Ais Wallenstein in the dungeon.

When Ais saved him from a minotaur, Bell Cranel fell in love with her. Somehow, his intense feelings for Ais unlocked the Liaris Freese skill. Aside from increasing the speed of his growth as an adventurer, the skill makes Bell immune to charms. That's why Goddess Freya couldn't charm Bell in Danmachi when she tried to as Syr at the isolated inn during the Goddess Festival.

Freya's charm momentarily worked on Bell but it soon broke. The Goddess of Beauty was surprised, and yet disgusted at herself for trying to Charm the boy. The skill is impressive as it could evade Freya's charm, which works on mortals and even Gods.

However, Liaris Freese has a weakness that Freya is aware of. According to the light novels, the strength or potency of the skill's effect depends on Bell Cranel's feelings and emotions for Ais Wallenstein. As long as Bell has feelings for Ais, the Liaris Freese skill will protect him from Freya's charms.

That's why, the Goddess of Beauty wanted to brainwash Bell into believing he was part of the Freya Familia. She knew that if she could get Bell to feel that his longing for Ais was a lie, the boy's Liaris Freese skill would lose effectiveness, and he would become a victim of her charms.

This is also why Hestia requested Ais Wallenstein not to meet Bell Cranel. She feared the boy would plunge into despair if he saw that Ais didn't remember him. It would have had a detrimental effect on his Liaris Freese skill as well. Besides that, Hestia kept Bell's skill a secret from many, fearing it could bring trouble.

Bell Cranel's Liaris Freese or Realis Phrase skill in Danmachi adds massive complexity to his character and connection to Ais Wallenstein. Undoubtedly, the skill helped him to soar through the ranks among his party members in Hestia Familia. At the same time, the skill proved a trump card, since he retained his memories and didn't fall victim to Freya's charms.
