The Dandadan anime series is set to premiere on October 4, 2024, and it is one of the highly anticipated anime series from the Fall 2024 anime season. The series follows the tale of two schoolmates who have different beliefs regarding the existence of two types of supernatural beings. They end up proving each other correct, trying to return to their normal lives.
The series blends comedy and supernatural in a perfect ratio, ensuring neither dominates, creating a perfect harmony. Moreover, the author of the series source, the manga series, has enough experience in the manga industry as he was the assistant of some big names. This hints that the fandom can start the anime and expect good things from it in the future.
Is Dandadan a comedy? Genre explained
Yes, Dandadan is a comedy series, but this genre is more in the series's narrative, not making it your usual comedy series like Gintama, Konosuba, and other famous comedy series. The action and supernatural genres dominate and are expected to stay central to the anime series for a perfect adaptation.
The series follows a usual high school premise where the female protagonist, Momo Ayase, repents her life after getting rejected by her boyfriend. While passing through a classroom, she encounters Ken Takakura getting bullied by his classmates.
After saving him out of her annoyance, Ken opens up to her and explains how he knew about her interest in the occult. He then pulls out his research on aliens and claims that he and Momo have the same interests. However, Momo isn't interested in aliens but in spirits.
After fighting each other, they bet to prove the existence of their occult creatures and the loser has to pay a price. Ironically, as they reach the site they recommended to each other, Ken discovers the existence of spirits and Momo discovers the existence of aliens. With the plot unfolding like a confession, what fates do the protagonists hold after discovering something they shouldn't have?
Did the Dandadan manga end? Status explained
Dandadan anime is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. The manga series is currently ongoing and has 16 volumes printed, with chapter 165 being the latest one, as of this article's publication. Even though this series is the author's only well-known work in the anime industry, his past ensures his bright future.
Yukinobu worked as an assistant for Tatsuki Fujimoto on his series Fire Punch and Yuuji Kaku on his series Hell's Paradise. Due to his past experiences, his art style has a reminiscence of the former series, especially the art style of monsters. The anime adaptation for the manga series was announced on November 27, 2023, and revealed its first promotional trailer on March 15, 2024.
The series will be animated by Science SARU, famous for animating out-of-the-ordinary anime series like Heike Monogatari and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!. Creepy Nuts (the Mashle opening song artists) will be performing the series' opening song, titled Otonoke, and ZUTOMAYO (the Chainsaw Man ending song artists) will be performing the ending theme song, titled TAIDADA.
Should you watch the Dandadan anime?
As the series follows an eccentric and action-centered plotline, fans of anime series like Chainsaw Man, Hell's Paradise, and Mob Psycho 100 would definitely enjoy the series. For the rest of the fandom, it is advised to watch the first episode because it would most likely adapt the first chapter of the series or at least a part of it.
The first chapter of the manga series was what made it a fan-favorite and if Science SARU delivers in giving a proper plotline and animation, the series could become one of the best series from the Fall 2024 anime season.
