The Dragon Ball and Boruto fandoms have come face to face numerous times to establish the position of their protagonists over the other. Although Gohan is not the actual protagonist of Akira Toriyama's series, he still is considered to be one of the most important and inarguably one of the most popular characters in the entire series.
Unlike Gohan, Naruto's son is the actual protagonist of his series and is considered by many fans to be the strongest out of all the new generation shonen teenagers. This has routinely led to arguments between the two fandoms, with the Dragon Ball fandom nearly winning every one of them due to the sheer absurdity of their universe.

Boruto fans try to establish Boruto's superiority over Dragon Ball's Gohan
Gohan has been a mainstay of power-scaling discussions ever since the Cell Saga aired during the early days of Dragon Ball Z. Although Gohan's destructive power, speed, battle experience, and potential have been established throughout Akira Toriyama's series, many Boruto fans still argue that their protagonist could somehow be on par with him.
Given that the overall power level in Akira Toriyama's series is far above the power scaling of other shonen anime, Dragon Ball fans were quick to question the intent of the original post, mentioning how this matchup was too absurd.
Fan reactions to the matchup
Many fans mentioned how this matchup cannot even be considered a proper contest due to its sheer absurdity. Some fans noted how the post was simply an attempt at engagement farming, arguing that a Super Saiyan transformation would be enough for Gohan, setting up Naruto's successor series for defeat.
"Bait for engagement farming, Gohan slams Otsutsuki lite in SSJ1," one fan mentioned.
"Setting the Boruto fandom up😭😭," another fan said.
Other fans took the opportunity to discuss power scaling, stating that Gohan would come out unfazed and nearly unscathed after an onslaught of attacks from Naruto's son. Some fans even questioned the terminology of the matchup, which aimed to pit two of the strongest teenagers in shonen against each other, despite Gohan being around 9-11 years old during his so-called "prime."
"Unfazed Gohan emerging from the smoke after Boruto throws everything in his arsenal at him," one fan said.
"PRIME Gohan is turning that dude into a fine red mist with a basic ki blast," another fan mentioned.
"Technically Gohan is 9 here." Another fan said.
Although actual power scaling between these two series is very difficult due to their completely different power systems and overall scales of power, it should be noted that the overall scale and power level in Akira Toriyama's series are much higher than in any other shonen anime.
